Windows 10: AdDuplex Windows 10 Report for April 2019 now available

We are in a weird spot where Windows 10 1903 is out in the wild but is not officially released just yet.

Windows 10 OS Worldwide (PCs)

While Windows 10 May 2019 Update is starting to trickle out via various channels, it is not officially available to consumers yet.

In the meantime, Windows 10 October 2018 Update added almost 3% to its share and, out of more than 100,000 PCs surveyed, 29.3% run the latest official Windows 10 release.

Newer versions are found on less than 1% of PCs despite a substantial (more than 2x) growth since last month.

It's only natural, that Windows 10 O18U has grown only modestly in anticipation of the next release.

Note: we don't have the data for the initial rollout of the first update to Windows 10 (1511, also known as Threshold 2). So it's a straight line from 0 to the first data point we have on August 22nd, 2016.

AdDuplex Windows 10 Report for March 2019 now available

With Windows 10 1903 right around the corner, we likely take a final snapshot of the landscape before it is released.

Windows 10 OS Worldwide (PCs)

Windows 10 October 2018 Update has added just a little over 5% to its market share this month, and it looks more and more likely that Microsoft seems to be giving up on it in favor of upgrading users straight to the next version.

Out of more than 100,000 PCs surveyed, only 26.8% run the October 2018 Update or newer builds.

After a couple of months of modest but steady growth, it looks like the growth of the current release is slowing down dramatically ahead of the next one. It doesn't seem likely that O18U will reach even half of Windows 10 PCs before April 2019 Update starts rolling out.

Will Windows 10 October 2018 Update reach critical mass before the next update is released?

Out of more than 100,000 PCs surveyed, only 12.4% run the October Update.

While this number is almost double of what we've seen last month, it's still far away from the dominating April 2018 Update (80.2%).

With only a few months to go until the next Windows 10 update is supposed to go mainstream, it is unclear if some PCs may have to install two major updates within a short period of time or go straight from A18U to 19H1.

This month's Surface chart is an interesting insight into how new devices go up in our charts right after holidays, when people are setting them up and exploring new apps, and then scale down a bit when things get settled.

All newer models have dropped in usage share on the AdDuplex network in January compared to December.

Another month of steady but slow Windows 10 October 2018 Update market share growth.

After updating the numbers, it seems that the overall analysis could be carbon copied from January and remain accurate. So, that's what we'll do...

Out of more than 100,000 PCs surveyed, only 21.2% run the October Update.

While this number is almost double of what we've seen last month, it's still far away from the dominating April 2018 Update (71.6%).

With only a few months to go until the next Windows 10 update is supposed to go mainstream, it is unclear if some PCs may have to install two major updates within a short period of time or go straight from A18U to 19H1.
