After KB4346084 computer wakes from sleep with Magnifier locked up

My system is Win10 x64 on Dell XPS 8920. I never had any problems with Magnifier until KB4346084. Magnifier is on when the computer goes to sleep. When I wake the computer my mouse works but the keyboard is locked up, can't enter my PIN (and it repeats the sounds over and over). I found the problem to be Magnifier. When I kill Magnifier my keyboard is no longer locked up and I can enter my PIN. I have uninstalled the update but that didn't fix it, the damage is already done.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for any help,

    Charles

Computer locks up waking from sleep

    Hi

My computer locks up when waking from sleep.

The power and WiFi lights come on as well as the keyboard backlight but the screen remains black. The computer doesn't respond to anything.

Pressing the power button once doesn't do anything. I have to hold the power button down for several seconds to force power off the computer.

I have run the troubleshooter and done a clean boot as described here:

waking issue after sleep windows 10

The troubleshooter doesn't find any problems and the computer still locks up after doing the clean boot.

The computer used to wake perfectly when it was running Windows 8.1. It was upgraded to Windows 10.

Any suggestions of how to diagnose / fix the problem?

My computer is a Dell XPS 17 (L702X).

    computer wake-up after sleep

    Hi Bill,

There's a possibility that the settings that enables your Space bar to wake your computer up from sleep was reset after updating Windows. If this what had happened, we suggest that you just re-set it up. See the steps below on how to do
    so:

    • Press Windows key and type keyboard in.
    • Click on Keyboard option and a pop-up windows should show up.
    • From there, go to > Hardware tab > Properties >
Change settings > Power management > Allow this device to wake the computer >
      OK/Apply.

Try the if the steps did work and let us know any updates.

wake from sleep issue in windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your reply. Apologize for the delay in response.

I suggest you to check which devices are configured to wake up the computer from sleep by following the steps below:

    • Right click on Start icon and select Command Prompt (Admin).
    • Type the command line below:
    Powercfg /devicequery wake_armed

    3. Check if the devices (Keyboard, Mouse, Ethernet cable) are listed.

If the system is not going to sleep and going to Hybernate, the only option to wake up is to press the Power button.

    Hope the information is helpful.
