After Sleep, programs hang upon launch

I have been having some really odd issues where when i either wake my computer up from Sleep, or when i'm playing a game for a long time and quit out to use my computer for other things, this will happen.

I have Outlook running and coming back from either of the above situation, and it shows as Disconnected/Limited Connectivity. I try to connect, and it ignores my command. I exit out of Outlook, and when i go to reopen it, it will not launch. Nothing appears in Task Manager, just doesn't launch.

With Firefox, i open up the program, and i get a white screen, and it goes into Not Responding. The same goes for IE, Chrome, and Opera.

I tried running the sfc /scannow in a cmd prompt, and it hangs as soon as i hit enter, nothing appears within cmd. I tried exiting out of the window, and the X will not respond and ignores my command.

Right now, the only way to close one of these programs is by using end task, and even sometimes that won't work. So the only way to fix this is by restarting the machine, but then it goes right back to the way it is eventually. I have automatic updates turned on, and the build is reading at Windows 10 Pro 1809 Build 17763.615. Updates says it is up to date.

Any ideas about what i can do to fix this? Thanks

    :)

  2. Browser launches after sleep

Hi and thank you for your response, followed the steps above and rebooted sadly still no change. Browser still launches after sleep. I have tried what you suggest plus number of variations of uninstall, reinstall, downloading latest vendor drivers, using
windows update to to get lastest drivers and letting control panel install drivers all with no change. Is there anything else you can suggest?

  4. After Sleep, programs hang upon launch

Applications/programs do not launch after Windows wakes up from sleep

    Hello Duy,

Thank you for posting your concern in Microsoft community and welcome to the Windows 10 Family.

From the description provided, I understand that some of the programs and apps do not work after Windows wake up from sleep.

Now, to be able to understand the issue better, let us know a few more details on the below questions.

    • Does the issue applies to a desktop or laptop in this case?
    • Do you see any error messages when the apps fail to open/start?

As an initial recommendation, I suggest you to check if the applications do not launch or if they run in the background. Follow the below steps.

    • Let Windows wake up from a sleep and then try to launch the applications which you are referring to.
    • If it does not launch, press the CTRL+SHIFT+ESC keys to open the Task Manager console in Windows. In the console try to identify if the program is active or not.
    • Select to have Task Manager display with Fewer details or
      More details
. By default, Task Manager will open to the same Fewer details or
More details view as it was last closed.

If it still does not help, follow the below methods and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

    Method 1

As the first step towards troubleshooting, try to create a different Power plan and check if the issue still persists.

Refer to the below Microsoft link on how to create a new Power plan.

Visit: Power plans: frequently asked questions

If it still does not help, I suggest you to
    reset and restore all
of the default Power Plans back to their default settings. Follow the steps:

    1. Press Windows Key + X.

    2. Select Command Prompt (Admin).

    3. At the command prompt, type powercfg -restoredefaultschemes, and then press
    ENTER.

    4. At the command prompt, type exit to exit the Command Prompt window.

    5. Restart the computer and check with the issue.

    Method 2

This is not a troubleshooting step, however, it helps to isolate any underlying causes which might be triggering the issue.

Boot the computer in safe mode with networking, and check if the issue still persist. Once this is done, reboot the computer in normal mode and check.

    Safe Mode With Networking:

Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state. Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started. The words
Safe Mode appear in the corners of your monitor to identify which Windows mode you're using. Please follow the below steps provided in the below link to start Safe Mode in Networking Mode.

Refer: Start your PC in safe mode in Windows
    10

If the issue does not occur in Safe mode, try to place the computer in a Clean Boot state and check if there are any third party application/software to be causing the issue.

A clean boot is performed to start Windows by using a minimal set of startup programs. This helps eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Note: As the article is designed for Windows 8.1, Windows 8 and Windows 7. Unlike launching step for 'System Configuration', options and steps to Clean Boot are same for Windows 10.

Disclaimer: Please go through the section: How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot of the Kb article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

    Method 3

If the issue still persists, I suggest you to check if the same issue occur when logged in through a different user account.

    Follow the steps:

    • Assuming that you are already logged on to your user account in Windows 10, click the Start button.
    • From the Start menu, click your name from the top of the left pane.
    • From the displayed options click Sign out.
    • From the login screen, click to the different user account you want to switch to.

However, if you do not have a separate user account, I suggest you to create another administrator user account by referring to the Microsoft article here: Set
    up accounts
    .

Let us know the results for us to be able to assist you further.

    Thank you.
