    Yes after the big update, my Kobo E-reader can't synchronize anymore with Kobo Desktop, and the OS asking of format the hd Kobo, I already have contact Kobo and still wait for some responses , but if someone have have a idea how fix a problem thanks

  2. Kobo reader and Windows anniversary update

    The update to Windows 10 Anniversary update has not been released yet to UK machines?? Tried downloading the relevant update KB but says it is not for my version of Windows 10?

    Microsoft are aware that this is affecting Kobo ereaders and other ereaders but have not openly admitted they have messed up again. Luckily I still have a tablet which is pre Win10AU on it so can use my Kobo Ereader .

    Hello,

    I am suffering from the same problem: Since the major Windows update, my Kobo Reader is not recognized in Windows Explorer, and thus it is not available to the Kobo application or Adobe Digital Editions.

    In Explorer, the Reader is given a drive letter, which shows "Please insert a disk" when clicked

    The devicemanager does identify the device as an Ereader: under Portable Devices the dive letter is shown, with under Properties-> General->manufacturer "Kobo", and under Properties-> driver details "eReader-3.19.576"

    So I conclude that the Win10 update caused this, and I'd like Microsoft to fix this with high priority, as my Ereader is now not usable anymore.

    Unfortunately it's often the case that although developers are given many months notice of the changes do in a windows update, they do not get the changes required released until after the update

    Best thing to do is to keep contacting Kobo every day if possible to pressurise them to fix their software

    If I had happened to need to move a book from Calibre to Kobo last week I would have reverted to 1511 build on that machine until it was fixed! grrrrrrrr.


    Does anyone know if a Kindle still works?

    Yes I already wrote to Kobo 2 times and I still wait from then answer, surely isn't not the best service in the world, after all the driver Microsoft are very old and from 2006, I don't understand why Microsoft have a driver so old that working with Windows XP-7-8-8.1 and 10 before the big update, change something for make a customer unhappy with the ereader
    but will see

    Microsoft does not create drivers for hardware/software other than their own items (Microsoft Mouse Etc),

    The suppliers write the drivers and provide them to Microsoft for distribution. It is up to the developers (in this case Kobo), to keep these up to date and compatible with the various windows versions

    I hoped they working together, and I understand, Microsoft send to Kobo the last update, what Kobo have to do is check if anything working fine or not, but for Kobo is important sell products doesn't matter if the product don't work, anyway they don't know what to do for now, I give them few days after I return the product and ask back money for all book I already bought, because the Kobo is totally unusable

    Kindle works fine. I don't use any Kindle software though - just Calibre.

    I don't know about Kobo but Kindle just connects as generic USB mass storage device using the same 2006 Microsoft driver as you - there are no specific drivers to install... I could (sometimes do) upload books via file explorer but generally use Calibre. Not sure if you could try that instead of Kobo desktop.

    I don't use Kobo desktop. on W10 1607 the OS does not see my KOBO Aura as an ereader and Calibre doesn't see it. File explorer just says it needs to be formatted.

    The KObo itself is fine. I found one of my pcs was within the 10 day rollback, rolled back to 1511. The kobo and Calibre came alive ( so I quickly bought some more books and downloaded them!) Have no re-installed 1607 from a thumb drive and Kobo is no longer seen properly. So now I'll watch this thread until Cariboou gets an answer

    Yes is true the Driver always working fine in the past update of Windows 10, but not this time and I think we are in many with the same problems, normally before the big update i plug the USB and the system find the E reader Kobo now when i plug Microsoft ask of format the Kobo HD before I use they, but like normal doesn't work, then now I can't setup again and the Kobo is unusable, I give them few days after I'll return to Indigo, asking money for all book I have already bought. Then after all I don't want be afraid anytime I get a update from Microsoft because the Kobo can stop to work!!! I have a complex programs in Adobe Cloud and they don't have any kind of problems with Microsoft Update, Kobo is better start to working fast and fix the problems, I'll be no nice with them be sure!!!

    There is a workaround - I've done this on mine - your mileage may vary and is at your own risk This came from the mobile read forums

    You will need to download a partitioning tool (I used the free MiniTool Partition Manager) and you will need access to a none Win10AU PC for back up.

    Plug your reader into a PC that has not had the upgrade and backup (copy all folders and files) the reader drive to that PC.
    Plug the reader into your windows 10AU PC and use the MiniTool Free Partioning software to format the eReader drive as FAT32 with MBR. Once complete "safely remove hardware" and unplug the reader.
    Switch off the reader (complete power down) and then switch on again. It will go through the set up process (Enter language etc)
    Once set up, go back to the PC you used to back up and copy back across the folders and files (if any are shown as duplicates with files the reader has just created do not copy back)

    That is it. This worked successfully on mine and others on the mobile read forums.

    Thans for the answer, but Kobo open a Ticket about the problems, like you had said is at my risk, no thanks I bought Kobo 20 days ago, so they have to fix the driver and hoping soon is possible for all peoples bought them products
