Windows 10: After updating to 1903 (from 1809) this morning, the Location tab on various c:\user...

Background:


My C: drive is a 250 GB flash drive. Ample for Windows, but not for all of my \user\…\Documents, \Music, \Video and other files. So I had used the Location tab on those folders to move their content to my drive E: (2 TB).


Problem:


After the update I noticed various quirks, including the fact that WMP no longer sees my E:\Public\Music folder in its Library (I posted an earlier question about that). Investigating that quirk led me to notice that the folders in C:\users:


a) No longer show custom icons. They all have the plain manila folder icon.


b) No longer show the E: drive locations in the Locations tab. They've reverted to their original C: drive locations.


Is there a simple way to recover from this, or should I be thinking about rolling back the update?


I could try putting back the folder icons and the Location tabs and just go on, but I'm a little terrified that the symptom may speak to deeper problems with the update.

Vista Ultimate - 'User' Folder Location

No tried that.

Can copy the entire folder to D; but Windows still points to C as the location. Can change personal folders location to a folder on D;, but this still leaves hidden files etc on C;. Thus meaning there are 2 Users folders. Have managed to change the Public folder location to D;, with some registry tweaks, but this doesnt seem to work for the entire folder.

any more suggestions

 

W10 1809 to 1903 update

Lenovo ThinkCentre E73, I have updated from W10 1809 to 1903 and the PC has now gone really slow and having issues with admin rights, I have chkdsk'd and scannow'd' but no issues found. Tried an inplace update in case windows was corrupted and get the
message some hardware on this PC is incompatible with 1903 update. Can anyone shed any light in these issues please. I have had to revert to 1809 to make the PC usable again. Any suggestions please ? Microsoft have said Lenovo are responsible and Lenovo have
said Microsoft is responsible, which does not help me one bit.

 

Windows 10 update: build 1809 to 1903 - new user created

I updated to 1803 last year. In the process my user profile was changed from "myname" to "myname.000"

All documents and folders had been moved to the new user in the process of the update. I spent some time updating permissions in Dropbox account, my Network storage and others things to reenable synchronisation for the newly created user.

Last night I updated Windows 10 to build 1903, and lo and behold, all my documents are now located in a newly created user "myname.000.000"

I have rolled back to 1809, and documents have been restored to user "myname.000" and Dropbox and Network drives are synching again.

How can I prevent Windows 10 updates from creating a new user profile or name at each (major) update?
