    Hi, some other ideas:
    1. Try sleep/resume with no USB devices connected.
    2. Try changing the graphics driver to the one that worked with Win 7.
    3. Does your PC use the 'Intel Management Engine'? If so, again, try downgrading the driver.
rickclephas comments on Windows 10 is great, but seems to have a problem waking from sleep mode on my laptop.
    4. Uncheck "Turn on fast startup" if you haven't.
    5. "The only work around I've found is to change the setting in additional power settings of "when I close the lid" to "do nothing" instead of sleep."

After Win10, HP desktop will not wake up from sleep

I stopped sleep and hibernate in the power settings. Then I went to advanced settings and made sure it was disabled in there. A couple were still set to sleep or hibernate I stopped it there. It has been almost 2 years ago and have no problems as a result.

    dalchina and others:

Thank you for the advice. I have went out of the frying pan and into the fire.

    Some notes:
    * I have no USB devices connected other than my mouse
    * my machine does not appear to use the Intel Management Engine Interface, in that it is not listed in the Device Manager
    * Fast Startup has been disabled
    * My BIOS confirmed that the processor is indeed B28, 3.4GHz, for whatever that is worth
    * I disabled screen saver, which did not help

Now things get interesting. You recommended reverting to an older graphics driver. At the link that you sent
Unable to come out of Sleep mode - Windows 10 Forums
someone said "Sleep mode issues 9 out of ten times are graphics related" I remembered that earlier I tried to get a graphics card that I had lying around to work with this machine, but it didn't work (I found out that it didn't support Win 10), so I reverted to my integrated, on board graphics. So I just realized that I probably had the driver for the card that didn't work (ATI Radeon 4550) that might be conflicting with my integrated Radeon 4200. But I couldn't delete graphics drivers that I couldn't see, so I followed a link from the discussion linked above, to the Display Driver Uninstaller utility. That indeed saw both Radeon drivers and removed both. The problem now is that my integrated card is now not seen. The Device Manager lists a Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. Nothing is detected. My HP Support Assistant finds nothing. The driver itself, downloaded from HP website, gives an error.

On top of all this, I no longer have Sleep listed as an option on my Power menu, so I don't even know whether I fixed anything.

My sense is to do a clean reinstall.

Kimock, as long as you have your data backed up for restore and are prepared to reinstalled any add on programs (keys and install files located) - I realize you may have a lot if you've run this machine for awhile, a clean install of Win10 may very well be your best best bet.

The best preparation for that would be a complete disk image with a highly reliable software (Macrium Reflect Free is one of the best, especially create the rescue PE CD, DVD, or USB drive to boot from for restore) that you can restore your disk with in case things don't work out. For a truly clean install of Win10, you would select a custom install and delete all existing partitions from your disk in the dialog that comes after selecting custom.

You might have better luck this way with Win10 detecting all of your hardware (including onboard graphics) and installing the correct drivers by giving it a clean slate to start with.

    dalchina, Word Man, and others:

I did a clean install of Windows 10, including manually installing a driver for my integrated video adapter. The sleep problem is still there. Thus, it seems that for whatever reason, this machine cannot wake from sleep under Win 10. I may or may not revert to Win 7.

Thank you for all your help!

I have exactly the same problem with you and tried everything...none of them works....very very frustrating.
To sad to hear that the issue still remains after you tried everything.

Have you tried using different RAMs? The this is last thing I haven't tried so far.

  10. HP has hundreds, if not thousands, of different model machines out there -- and only SOME of them are certified to work under Win10.

They have a page where you enter your product number and it tells you if your particular HP machine has been tested for working with Win10: Confirm Upgrade to Windows 10 | HP® Official Site

And, the OPs machine has NOT.

Furthermore, that machine has no HP Win10 drivers --pretty much guaranteeing that one or more functions, that used to work perfectly under Win7, are no longer going to work properly under Win10.

So, simply because one HP product works fine under Win10 means nothing about any other HP product's performance under Win10.

I've exactly the same problem with my HP Compaq 6005 Pro MT PC with a fresh Windows 10 installation. I could fix the problem by installing the Windows 7 AMD AHCI driver. The x64 driver can be found here and the x86 driver here. The installer will not work under Windows 10, so you have to install the driver manually from C:\AMD\Radeon-Crimson-16.4.2-SB-SATA-AHCI-Win10-Win8.1-Win7-64Bit\Packages\Drivers\SBDrv\hseries\AHCI\W764A. Don't try the Windows 8 driver in WB64A directory - it will not solve the problem.

    This worked for me!
At first i got a error message stating windows version mismatch when i tried to use the driver installer located at C:\AMD\Radeon-Crimson-16.4.2-SB-SATA-AHCI-Win10-Win8.1-Win7-64Bit\Packages\Drivers\SBDrv\hseries\AHCI\W764A.

Finally got it installed by doing as follows:
Navigate to Device manager -> click anywhere to device list -> Action -> Add legacy hardware -> Next -> Install the hardware that i manually select from a list (Advanced) -> Show all devices -> Next -> Have Disc -> navigate to the folder C:\AMD\Radeon-Crimson-16.4.2-SB-SATA-AHCI-Win10-Win8.1-Win7-64Bit\Packages\Drivers\SBDrv\hseries\AHCI\W764A and select amd_sata.inf.

After the driver has installed you'll just need to restart the system and you're good to go!

    Many thanks to Kolibri42!
