Windows 10: After years of using File Explorer and double clicking on files to open them, now the...

I began having a very frustrating issue lately. I am on a PC, using Windows 10. After years of using File Explorer and double clicking on files to open them, now the files/apps won't open that way. For instance, if want to open a Word file, now I must open Word and then navigate in Word to find the file, and then open it. This is the same for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and also Adobe Acrobat. I have troubleshot this and worked on it for quite some time. Can anyone help? And just FYI, finding and opening files in File Explorer works as normal on these type files: kmz, jpg, png, mov, mp4,

Single click or Double click - more productive ?

I use default settings. Double-click is used in Windows Explorer to open folders and files but I open files and folders with hitting Enter button. It's my old habit from MS-DOS and Norton Commander days which I ain't gonna change.


IIRC doors in Doom I and II are opening via double-click lol

 

Double Clicking Package File Opens Internet Explorer Window And Will Not Open File

I'm trying to download a mod for my Sims 3 game and it comes as a .zip file. I unzip it and put it into my mods folder but there's an internet explorer icon next to it. I double click on the (now package) file and it opens this internet explorer downloads
window. When I click open, it does nothing. When I click "save as", it saves to the correct location but appears, once again, as a file with the internet explorer icon next to it. When I double click on the new file to open it, it does the same thing as
before sending me into a circle where I just was. If anyone knows what to do please help. Any advice is appreciated! Thank you

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
