Windows 10: Alienware 17r3 Laptop has errors so I can't troubleshoot, or update/use Java. (0x80070005)

Hello, I was on my Alienware 17r3 Laptop today and everything was normal 2 days ago, but when I logged on today I noticed I wasn't able to open discord or a few games. I have tried fixing this problem for several hours looking at other online forums with the problem to no avail. I have a few programs that I tried to use for troubleshooting:

One that I attempted was called "MicrosoftProgram_Install_and_Uninstall.meta" had an error, https://gyazo.com/98d007cd0d3044747dac1250482b7102

When I tried a suggestion that said to use cmd and do: "sfc /scannow" It said, "You must be an administrator running a console session in order to use the sfc utility."

I am on the administrator account right now. I always use the admin account, I have no other accounts on this laptop. This is a problem that just started today, I didn't meddle with anything to my knowledge unless I might have accidentally changed something by randomly pushing stuff? (I didn't see anything change.)

I went to windows defender and tried to perform a "Fresh Start" (under device performance & health) but it said there was a problem and didn't work.

I checked my pathfiles and they all say C:\WINDOWS\TEMP for administrator and normal users, for temp and tmp (I changed the administrators to that, and it didn't do anything).

If you have know what my problem is please let me know, I have tried for several hours. I have very little to no computing knowledge at all, so for instructions please give me baby steps. I would really appreciate your help and will respond with whether or not the changes have worked or that I have done your steps and what happens. Thank you so much and I hope we can fix this.

Windows Update Fails - Alienware 17R3

Hi there,

I've been browsing the answers database for the past 2 hours and trying all of the fixes listed, but I am having no success. Windows update fails on a few updates (and has for the past several months, although now especially that I need to update to .NET
framework 4.7 for compatibility with another app, this is becoming more frustrating). I've tried all of the fixes listed, but nothing is working.

System Specs:

Alienware 17R3 Laptop (Confirmed Windows 10 compatible and came pre-installed with Windows 10 Pro)

Current Build: Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.447)

Affected Updates:

*Note: The .NET framework update doesn't show here, because my last step for troubleshooting had me reset windows update, which obviously is still not working.

• 2017-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4034658) - Error 0x8e5e0147

• Intel Corporation - Display - 1/18/2017 12:00:00 AM - 21.20.16.4590 -
Error 0x80070147

• Qualcomm Atheros Communications Inc. - Net - 2/12/2017 12:00:00 AM - 12.0.0.296 -
Error 0x80070147

Steps That I've Taken:



1) Restart PC and try again (Did not work)

2) Run Windows Update Troubleshooter - This did find and "fix" some errors, but when I tried again it failed. This was the same result even after using troubleshooter a second time and restarting PC afterwards.

3) Downloaded the update filed for 2017-08 Cumulative Update and attempted to install manually -
After running, said "Update Failed to Install"

4) Reset Windows Update Components (as per https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/971058/how-do-i-reset-windows-update-components) -
As stated before, this also didn't work, even after a restart. It cleared my update history but still failing with the same error codes

The last and only step that seems available at this point is to repair the windows installation, which will cause me to lose all of my apps, and I simply don't have the time to spend another 2 hours today re-configuring my system and re-installing all of
my applications - There must be another solution.

This is apparently a very common problem, and some sites offer a "fix", but as I can't confirm the trustworthyness of said sites, I am hesitant to download and run whatever program they have.
I do run Avast! Antivirus and can scan the files, I suppose, but I'd prefer to see if there's another solution that I'm missing first.
