"All apps" menu not showing ANY apps installed on machine

    Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum and was excited to find it as there are a lot of people giving great answers to Windows 10 problems and I sadly ran into one recently. I have had Windows 10 installed for about 4 months now and things have been going decent. A couple of days ago my system received a Windows 10 update that took about 2 hours and looked like it was installing Windows all over again (but it wasn't) and once this happened I couldn't find the Microsoft Edge application and the start button would not work at all. After doing a system restore to a date prior to the update things are back to "normal" except for this one problem.

Currently my start menu does not show any Recently Used or Favorite Apps in it as shown below:

If I select the All apps button it also shows nothing:

I made sure that all of the settings in order to see recently used apps and all my apps are correct as below are my settings:

I have tried a couple of solutions that handled Cortana not searching for programs or "some" apps were missing from all apps but I have yet to find a solution to when absolutely no apps are showing in the start menu. I know the applications still exist on my machine as I use Firefox and Microsoft Word and Outlook plus many more apps but they aren't showing up at all. I am also under a local account instead of my Microsoft account and both have this problem.

Has anyone ran into this before or know how to fix this situation? Any help would be much appreciated!

    Thank you,

    Justin

    :)

All Apps in Start Menu keeps showing "new" but I don't have any new programs or apps

Every day the All Apps listing in the start menu shows "new" next to it, but I haven't installed any new programs or apps. As soon as I expand the all apps listing the "new" will go away but come back again later on. Any ideas how to stop this?

  3. N79; can't run " home media " menu

    sawatdee krap,

maybe because you havent set any connections for "home media". i think it needs to connect with your computer. you also need to install SimpleCenter's Home Media Server software on your PC

maybe this will help you -

"All apps" menu not showing ANY apps installed on machine

What happens if you try another user profile or load Start10 to see if it shows "Universal Apps".

Hi, I'm a bit puzzled about your description of the update vs your comment about system restore.
The November TH2 'upgrade' to 10586 takes 2 or so hours and is based on the procedure of installing Windows, so I guess that's what you mean. Fine. But directly AFTER that upgrade there will be no restore points (because of that procedure being used), and usually system restore is found to be turned off (again!).

It would be neither possible nor expected to be able to use system restore to reverse that upgrade.

You could have a look at this:

Sadly the start menu and Cortana bring with them a degree of fragility... my win 10's been stable once configured in terms of appearance and basic functionality, drivers etc. (although I make changes in installed desktop apps from time to time).

Best to use Classic Shell as the start menu (e.g.) or some replacement as above as the Win 10 start menu does NOT render a traditional start menu's hierarchal folder tree usefully.. it loses all the subfolders, so you might see

Thank you for the input! I apologize about the confusion. The update I received was on December 6th and for a couple of days things ran smoothly. On December 9th is when the start menu did not work and I was missing Microsoft Edge and the Microsoft store app. A lot of people have been doing system restores when this happened so that is what I did and when I went to go find a restore point I only had one which was for "12/6/2015" so somehow there was a restore point (which I am glad there was as it solved the issue). I apologize I don't have the update as when I did the system restore I installed a handful of updates on December 10th and things seem to be fine. I just wanted everyone to have a sense of what has happened leading up to the main problem I am having with the All Apps button.

Thank you for the advice! Just bummed it isn't working as it should, or even as it was working.

It should be working. The app's are under the hidden Common folder. Try the following. https://thomas.vanhoutte.be/miniblog...ndows-10-apps/

The only one I could find in the tutorials was just for restoring the Photo app. Brink may have a tutorial on restoring all, just that the search engines did not puck up on it.
