Windows 10: All browsers crashing after Windows Defender Definitions automatic update

All of my browsers are either crashing ( Google Chrome), or failing to load and then crashing (Microsoft Edge). Apps that need access to the internet all crash before loading.


The only thing that has changed in my system is an automatic Windows Defender update that occurred overnight.

I have tried:

Rebooting;

Removing all antivirus anti-malware, and disabling Windows Defender;

performed a system restore to a point prior to the update;

Fluahed DNS;

Sfc;

DISM;

cannot uninstall the Windows Defender definitions, because Microsoft doesn't allow that.


Any suggestions other than seeing how far my laptop will fly?

SEtting up automatic updates for windows defender on windows 8

I have found this on the internet en have set up a task for automatic definitions update for Windows Defender but a window pops up when this starts to run.
Is there a way to set this without any window popping up so that it just runs in the background?

Now I'm using
"C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe" -SignatureUpdate -MMPC

Thank you Elba for the prompt reply. However, there is a problem: In "Control Panel" under the "Programs and Features" page > "View Installed Updates" the " Windows Defender Definition Updates" are NOT listed. Consequently, I cannot delete/uninstall them.
The same thing happens when I use "Settings" >" Updates & Security" > "View Update History". Here the Definition Updates are all listed but I can't uninstall them either. Any other suggestions?

Again, Martin and with respect I don't think that we are on the same page. I've asked if Defenders definition updates are supposed to be installed
automatically. I've run the WU Troubleshooter = no problems found. But why are you then suggesting I update them manually? How the hill will I know that there's a definition update that needs to
be installed?

So let me ask a final time - on a PC which has WUs installed automatically (i.e. most Home Users), should Defender definition updates also be installed automatically?
