  1. All files changed to same name

The person who replied is wrong to an extent. If you have accidentally renamed all files in a directory by having selected them all and then renamed one, if you act quickly, you can undo this with CTRL-Z. You may have to hit it several times.

But the real solution is to make the procedure for renaming all files in a directory be a tad more complicated. How often does anyone need to rename all files to the same filename? Like never? So this slip of the fingers can cause much more of a problem than it ever goes to make someone's work easier.

And would you please dispense with all the niceties and face kissing that happens at the beginning of every single help answer you all ever give? It is not nice, it is machine-generated, and it just gets in the way. We are not seeking approval or acceptance here.

    Thank you,

  2. name changes??

If you desire a name change please do the following:

    • Ask yourself if you really need a name change.
    • Make sure you have a good reason.
    • Know what you want your new name to be before you request a name change.
    • Send Urlyin a PM containing a decent explanation of your reason as well as your desired name.
