Windows 10: All USB Devices Not Recognized

I've had this ongoing issue for a few months. Anytime I plug in any USB device, Windows will not load drivers for them. Devices show up under "Other Devices" and


The drivers for this device are not installed. Code 28

There are no compatible drivers for this device.

Manually pointing to the right driver through Update Driver->Browse My Computer->Let me pick from a list works, but requires I know what type of device it's going to show up as which isn't easy - is it a Camera or Imaging Device? Depends!, or if the vendor actually supplies drivers, that'll fix it. Until I disconnect a reconnect. Wash, rinse repeat.


I've uninstalled and reinstalled my USB controllers and chipset drivers over and over AMD X470 chipset, running MSI X470 Gamin M7 AC motherboard. Oddly, reinstalling the chipset driver will also fix the issue for anything currently connected, but will fail on any subsequent devices same as the device drivers. Doing the chipset drivers just gets all connected devices to load drivers


One thing I do see is that when the device drivers do not load, Device Manager usually does give the correct name of the device, but the hardware ID is always the same:

In addition, we suggest that you turn off the notifications from the USB by following these steps:

• Open Settings by typing "settings" in Cortana's search box.
• Click on Devices.
• Locate USB and toggle the switch to Off.

Some USB Devices not recognized in Windows 10

Hi have Windows 10 Pro insider preview 10532 64bit Pro Intel i7 desktop PC.

I have multiple USB devices connected, USB 3 & 2. The USB HDD is working however my Samsung phone and kindle are no longer being recognized. The steps followed so far:

• Uninstalled all USB devices in device manager including controllers
• Flashed BIOS to latest version
• Updated USB drivers for the devices from manufacturers sites
• Tried new USB cables

Please note: both devices are recognized by my Windows 10 Lenovo laptop.

I really don't want to fresh install, please suggest any diagnostics I can try.

USB Device Not Recognized (Malfunctioned)

Just had this problem recently, a cmos clear corrected it. One item you can check to see is if the bios recognizes anything by loading its "boot from" menu and checking for any USB mass storage listed.
