Windows 10: Alt+Tab behavior

I am looking for a way for Alt+Tab to take me back to the last window I was using. Right now when you hit Alt+Tab it takes you to another window of the same program if you have one open.


For example, if I have an Explorer window and a Word file both open, and then I open another Word file in that Explorer window, if I hit Alt+Tab it takes me to the other Word file, instead of the Explorer window, which is the last window I had open. All I want is for Alt+Tab to take me back to the last place I was, not to any file of the same program that I might happen to have open.


Also, if I am in a Explorer window and open a Word file, and then close that Word file, instead of taking me back to the Explorer window that I just had open, it will switch me to another Word file if I have one open.


I want to go back to the last place I was when I hit Alt+Tab or when I close window. Windows used to do that. I have to use Alt+Tab about three times more than I should every day just to overcome this. Please help, this is driving me nuts.

alt tabbing increases system performance?

I wonder if CTRL+ESC would cause the same effect?

I've never noticed any alt+tab behavior in game, either good or bad.

Just found a really cool way to make alt+tab INSTANT!!!

In the launch options write the following: -windowed -noborder





This play exactly the same as fullscreen but now you dont have to wait 30 f*@!ing seconds to alt+tab back in!

Also you don't get the little purple/black checkered effect (only in Source games) from alt+tabbing in fullscreen.
