  1. Am I right on how to install windows on a new Hard disk drive/solid state drive?

Here are all the steps i got.

1: just in case i do for some reason need it, find my laptops product key.

2:get the windows media installation tool and chose my windows version and options, then put in a 8gb+ usb of get a blank disk. Download the files. Make sure they are put on the usb.

4: plug in the new hard drive/ssd and the usb.

5: boot the laptop and as its booting press f11 or f12 repeatedly until i am into the bios.

6: select the usb drive and press save and exit.

7: enter my product key if i need it for some reason

    8: login.

9: just let the installation happen like i would with a new laptop.

10: after installation unplug the usb and windows should of been put onto the new hdd/SSD right?

Is there anything i am missing, or that is wrong?

    :)

  2. Moving windows from a hard drive to a solid state drive

i have windows 10 installed on my 1tb western digital blue hdd right now it. My computer came with windows 10 pre installed and id like to move it from the hard drive it originally came on to a solid state drive i bought recently but from what ive gathered
on apparently for some reason there is no way to just transfer all windows files from my hard drive to my solid state so that i am able to boot windows from my solid state. so from what ive gathered the best way to do this would be to reinstall windows and
choose my solid state as the download location. but i do not have a windows disk as my computer came with windows pre installed so i believe id have to use the windows media creation tool and either burn it to a disk or create a usb. but i do not have a product
key to activate windows after doing so because my windows is from the OEM so im wondering if i will have to activate my windows or will it automatically recognize that my computer has an OEM key attached to it. there is no sticker or card that came with the
computer so i assume the key is attached to my hardware someway or another. so if i use the media creation tool to create a usb for a clean windows 10 install to my solid state will i have to activate windows or will it be automatic and can i keep all my other
files on my hard drive with no problems? this is a very confusing just to get windows from one drive to another, i just want to be able to boot from my solid state, will i have to redownload programs if the are already on my hard drive? i plan to keep the
hard drive for storage and just put a few things including my OS onto the solid state, for reference my hard drive is a 1tb WD blue and my solid state is a crucial mx500 500gb my computer is an hp omen 870-224

  3. SSD is reported as "Hard Disk Drive" instead of "Solid Sate Drive" in Windows 10 "Optimise Drives" display,

    Hi,

I recently cloned my complete Windows 10 installation from a hard drive to a Crucial SSD using the Acronis Cloning software that Crucial supplied. After cloning, I removed the old hard drive and was happy to see that Windows loads fine from the new SDD,
and everything seemed to be working fine.

However I have now noticed that the SSD (which is now my 'Drive C:') is still listed as a 'Hard Disk Drive' when I bring up the Defrag and Optimise Drive app and not as "Solid State Drive".

This is worrying me as I understood that Windows needs to correctly recognise the drive as a solid state drive in order to apply the correct optimisation policies.

My question is how can I make Wiondows 10 correctly treat the drive as a Solid State Drive?

    Regards

    Dave

Am I right on how to install windows on a new Hard disk drive/solid state drive?

Hard Disk Drive (HDD) seen as Solid State Drive in Optimize Drives

    Hi Joshua,

Which hard drive is an external and internal?

Did you checked the hard drive is visible when you go to This PC?

I suggest you to type diskmgmt.msc in the start search and hit enter.

Check if you can see both hard drives.

You may also uninstall and then reconnect the external hard drive and check.

This method resolves issues where the currently loaded USB driver has become unstable or corrupt.

    • Click Start, type Device Manager in the Search
      box
    • Click Device Manager from the returned list.
    • Click Disk Drives from the list of hardware
    • Right-click the USB external hard drive with the issue, and click Uninstall.
    • After the hard drive is uninstalled, unplug the USB cable.
    • Wait for 1 minute and then reconnect the USB cable. The driver should automatically load
    • Check for the USB drive in Windows Explorer.

Please update us with the status. We will be glad to assist you.
