Windows 10: Anniversary ISO

My computer is finally running on all cylinders thanks to forum members !
I had been reinstalling fresh copies of Windows 10 using an ISO downloaded using the Media Creation tool from Microsoft while I was troubleshooting.

The ISO I had created was for version 1511, so each time I reinstalled I then had to download the Anniversary upgrade.

Is there anyway to tell what Version of the OS ISO I am creating with the tool?

Today is the launch of anniversary update I wanted to force update my machine to anniversary update but iso files are only for windows 10 v1511 please provide iso file for anniversary update as soon as possible as my internet connection is limited.

You could use the method in the tutorial below to see what build and version the ISO file is if that's what you meant.

Before using the Media Creation Tool to download an ISO file, always download a new Media Creation Tool (MCT). The MCT is NOT auto updating. In other words if you are using a MCT from 1 year ago it will download the same ISO file that it did 1 year ago which is likely to be outdated. Here's a tip that will keep you from having to actually download the full ISO file to see what build it is:

Start the MCT but don't select anything to download. With the MCT open, open explorer and look at the folder in the above quote for the products.xml file.

 

The simplest way to see which iso the tool will get is to look at the 'Properties' of the tool itself.

 

Which usually will NOT match the build number of the ISO it will download.

 

Maybe not the exact build, but surely the big numbers match? (10586 v. 14393). The OP's concern was getting 1511 when they wanted 1607.

 

Brink I just took a peek at my existing ISO very interesting, but yes I did want to know what Version before I downloaded the ISO.

I downloaded the latest Media Creation Tool I am up to "Choose which media to use", and what the saved file name will be.
I see the newly created file. Mine is labeled $Windows.~BT with a sub directory of Sources, and its sub directory Panther.

Nothing in the $Windows.~BT, but the directory Sources
The only thing in Sources is the sub directory Panther.

I didn't go any further as I thought it would start downloading the ISO.

 

I'll have to check again when I get home from work and can run the Media Creation Tool.

 

Make sure your Windows explorer is set to show hidden files and folders. As soon as I started Media Creation Tool, without even accepting the EULA, the hidden folder $Windows.~WS was created on C:\ drive. Inside that was Sources. Inside Sources is products.xml. Here is the current filename in products.xml:
14393.0.160715-1616.rs1_release_CLIENTCombinedSL_RET_x64fre_en-us.esd

So that tells me the current MCT is retrieving build 14393.0 dated July 15, 2016.

Just hover the cursor over mediacreationtool.exe and the popup menu tells you which version of iso it is for.

 

And in the past the version number of the EXE file has not matched the build number of the ISO it downloaded.

 

That did happen with Insiders on one release (and was a glitch really) but I have never seen that with the release versions (at least in the major build number - the minor number after the decimal point may vary).
