Strange. Office is working ok but this click to run extensibility component is configuring every login on every single one of our machines. here's the same thing going on from another machine. It always runs shortly after login

has the frustrating side effect of making the desktop icons flash / re draw when it configures (like when software is being installed) and this often also stops the windows media player network sharing service necessitating a restart of the service. So this is why it is disconcerting that the latest updates to office has caused this component to keep configuring. It may take a good few minutes to run after a new login but it always will

  5. I have tested several more machines today of colleagues and friends and this anomaly/bug introduced by this version of office exists on every single one of them. Click to run extensibility component configuring on regular occasions. Seemingly linked to everytime office automatic update task runs

Raising awareness on MS answers too via below link. Pretty poor that this got through QA testing. The issue is not immediately apparent but am sure will get noticed by more and more unless MS releases a fix/new version soon

No, not at all. My update and everything is just fine.

  7. It's strange. So you don't see this popping up repeatedly in reliability history in the days since upgrading to the new version. I've looked at 6 different machines now and they are all having the issue. It seems to be related to office automatic check. Or at least someone else has speculated this. Everytime that runs the click to run extensibility component then reconfigures/installs. I presume your office is configured for auto updates?

I have no gripes with the functionality of office. It runs fine but it's this function that runs in the background. It's a little disconcerting to see the desktop icons flash at random times (as if something is installing) and all because of this click to run component running/configuring

I just checked my reliability history and all I saw was a couple of entries for Windows Definition Update.

  9. Ok thanks for your feedback. Presume yours is also set to do automatic updates? I think if someone has office updates disabled and just checks manually they wouldn't notice the issue. I don't want to suppress the automatic update check but I wonder if there is a way to make it less frequent.

its odd I see it on a few machines but people on here do not. I'm going to push hard at ms support but I think best option is to wait for the next update to office 365. I hope it's not too far away

I have my "update automatically" disabled and I install all of my updates manually.

  11. Ok thanks - I guess that's why your not seeing this happen - if it persists or MS don't come back with anything then I may look to do the same and disable it.

  12. Can I just ask one more question? How do you disable the auto update check for office? Do you have this option unticked? I only want to suppress the office auto update check and nothing else. Normally I update office through the bottom screenshot. I can't select disable updates (I thought that might stop the auto update check) as it prevents them entirely
