How to Check for Updates in Office 2016 for Windows


Information If you have Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows checked in your Windows Update settings, then Windows Update will automatically install your Office 2016 updates when available.

You can also manually check for Office 2016 updates at any time unless automatic Office updates are disabled. It's recommend that you use automatic updating—but if you choose not to, be sure to check for updates at least once a week.

This tutorial will show you how to manually check for and install updates for Office 2016 on your Windows PC.



Here's How:

1. In an Office 2016 program (ex: Outlook 2016), click/tap on File. (see screenshot below)



2. Click/tap on Account or Office Account. (see screenshots below)






3. Click/tap on Update Options, and click/tap on Update Now. (see screenshot below)



4. Office will now check for updates. (see screenshot below)




5. Do step 6 (no) or step 7 (yes) depending on if an update is available for Office.


6. If No Updates are Available for Office 2016
A) If You're up to date, then click/tap on Close. You are done. (see screenshot below)





7. If Updates are Available for Office 2016
A) If an Office update is available, then they will start downloading now. (see screenshot below)



B) When ready to install the Office Update, click/tap on Continue. (see screenshot below)


Warning Be sure to save your work in any opened Office 2016 program first since it will automatically be closed.





C) The update will now be applied. (see screenshot below)

Updates for Office 2016

Hi Palcouk, thanks for taking the time to respond.

In File/Account/Update Options - it shows as Product Activated; Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016; Version 1706 (Build 8229.2073)

I have still not received any updates for it which I don't suppose is a huge problem except that I am still getting them for the older version (2010) which I uninstalled. (received quite a few more yesterday)

 

Updates for Office 2016

View carefully the various entries in Programs & Features for anything related to MS Office, including any Connector

In any Office component>File>Account>Update Options

Are you signed in to an administrator account?

 

For both items the answer is yes

 

Interesting. Was this Office preinstalled on your PC, or a retail copy you installed?

I've seen it mentioned a few times on the Internet that the OEM copies do not always have the "Office Updates" option.

Either way, you can update Office via Windows Update when you have Give me updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows checked.

 

I have found that you won't see Office updates in View Your Update History, but... If you look in Reliability History(Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Security and Maintenance\Reliability Monitor) they show up there, when Office is updated.

I mean to see if it is updating.*Smile

 

I think you have to go to settings - Update & Security - Advance Options - select option Give me updates for other Microsoft Products When I update Windows.

How may I view all the KB#s that have been applied to Office 2016 after all available updates were installed?

Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features\Installed Updates to see windows & Office updates

 

Thanks, but oddly I can only get to this panel via ASK CORTANA "INSTALLED UPDATES" - i.e., seems to be hidden in "PROGRAMS and FEATURES" for some reason?

 

to see which update you are downloading go to settings ( windows key + I) then update and security you will see what you are downloading


for more detailed update use WUMT (Windows Update Mini Tool)
