Want to see a weird one?! When going to see the Home VM which just saw a new wallpaper put on see the check for the updates the paper on the second remote desktop suddenly changed as well! Both VM and the remote pc have the TV program in use while remote automatic paper change? *Eek





The prompt to restart the VM was seen in under a minute when going to check the WU for 342 and found it finished downloading in only seconds! Talk about lightning speed? Fortunately the thought of using the new paper on the second desktop was already being considered when seeing that one. The previous paper?





I was trying to recreate this one when the other came out. The sluggishness on the BT Folder project VM is now gone there for that Pro VM being another good turn out for this build! I suspected seeing the next build applied would correct that problem anyways. I still have the main left however which should go smooth as well.

 

I don't think so. I tried and it's still asking for "special" USB stick.
Another weird thing, can't adjust time from clock setting on taskbar any more. I was experimenting with a live Linux and it changed my clock's time in BIOS.

 

At least, this build doesn't cause BSOD's and the DRM issue has been fixed.
Seems usable so far.
Will save a "system image", just in case the next builds will break everything again...*Tongue

Unfortunately SKY GO still won't accept EDGE as a browser on this build - even though Ms has fixed DRM playback from Netflix etc.

I think though this is rather a SKY TV problem than Ms - Sky still insists on using Silverlight which is a bit old anyway --although SKY GO works aon ANDROID so it should be fixable.

With the amount of Money Sky TV earns I can't see why this should still be a problem.

One other thing would be nice -- now BASH is there could file explorer at least READ some linux file formats - would be too much I suppose to read ext2/ext3/Lvm (XFS). Doesn't have to WRITE (although would be nice) but even READ would be a help. I know SAMBA etc but would be nice to have a Native read in Windows too. There are 3rd party apps available but since Bash shell is now in Windows having native access to the file systems makes sense too.

No it was only in Education and Enterprise only. You did always have the Windows to Go Startup Options though which would force a boot from USB.





That was (and is) quite useful as it will boot from any USB. Installation USB, Linux, whatever.

Windows to Go though is a fairly worthless addition as the second option here using PoSh is very quick and easy and gets you around the limitation of using old expensive USB keys certified by MS 5 years ago. Windows To Go Step by Step - TechNet Articles - United States (English) - TechNet Wiki

It is a fun technology to play with at home (and I have a lot) but really it isn't particularly useful in real life. There is no way I could plug a USB into any of my clients computers - they all block all USB ports. I've not worked anywhere for more than a decade that lets you use USB for anything whatsoever. If I am lucky I get to connect my computer (or one of theirs) via WiFi that is not connected to the network. If I need to transfer a file the IT dept do it, usually after much form filling, but there is no way anyone would let me (or anyone) just connect an unknown device. This is common sense.

I could plug it into an internet café computer I suppose but then (being a humble Pro user without a volume license) my windows would not activate as the hardware would have changed and it would eventually block my key if I kept on doing it.

And it is slow.

It is fun to play with at home but really just a solution in search of a problem which even if it did exist 5 or 10 years ago simply doesn't any more.

I guess that is why they included it - unless you have a volume license and somewhere (that doesn't care about security) to stick it in it just isn't that useful.

 

Your copy-paste link does not work in file explorer, with or without the prefix C:\ drive.

Well.. this build is working just fine. Rock solid.

 

$windows.~BT is a hidden file - the leading $ is the conventional symbol to enable Windows to hide the file.

In File Explorer, View, you need the hidden feature checked to see hidden folders. And even then File Explorer search may not find it! It should be pasted into the address box.

Anyone else using dual / multiple display system with taskbar only on one display, but not on primary display?

I have this annoying small issue: whenever setting up Windows, I disable "Show Taskbar on all displays:

I then unlock Taskbar and move it to secondary display and lock it there. Although not a gamer, I like to play SimCity and Cities: Skyline, which both allow full screen only on primary display. Keeping my Taskbar on secondary display I can use full screen in these games without my Taskbar being hidden under the game.

This works without an issue, a reboot or sign out / sign in always shows my desktop as I want to, taskbar on secondary display. This is also good for Edge which I use for YouTube and such; Edge opens on primary display as you know, full screen videos would again hide the Taskbar.

BUT: If I switch user, then come back to first user, the Taskbar is always returned to primary display. I have to again unlock it, move to secondary display and finally lock it there.

Screenshots to explain this a bit better. First, this is how I like it, primary 1920*1080 display on right, ready for full screen gaming and full screen videos, no Taskbar. Secondary 1600*900 display on left, with Taskbar:




The same after I switched to another user and returned to original user desktop. Taskbar has moved to primary display on right and I must unlock it, move to secondary display and lock again:




If instead of Switch User I simply sign out, sign in to another user account, then sign in again to this first account, this does not happen; when signing in, the Taskbar is always shown where it should be, on secondary display. This only happens when switching user without signing out first.

Is this just me or a common issue when Taskbar is only shown on secondary display?

 

If no-one answers first I'll test it in about 30 minutes when my wife has finished with her soap opera fix.

By the way (for @badrobot, @Fafhrd above) *Start + R and entering C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources works fine. No need to enable hidden directories if you define where they are.

Similarly you can hit *Start + R and enter %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache which is a system folder. If you know where it is then you are OK - you don't have to enable view in folder options.

You can also skip the Run dialog completely and simply open File Explorer, then type for instance C:\$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources or %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache or any other path containing hidden folders in addressbar and hit Enter to open it.

 

Try *Start + R and enter it there...





Folder option authority should not matter then as you (should) have authority to the contents (I'm on 14342 Pro btw).
