For those interested in switching between Skippy and not Skippy:

*Arrow Skip Ahead to Next Release for Windows 10 Insiders in Fast Ring Windows 10 Windows Update Activation Tutorials

Tested this on a VM. Had Skippy build 16257. Switched to Next version, got 16278. Switching back to Skippy, am now downloading 16353:

I wasn't sure if the registry trick would work anymore because although registry clearly shows I had switched back to Skippy, the message in Insider settings is somewhat confusing:

Anyway, regardless of that confusing message, switching back to Skippy seems not to be a problem, you just need to change that one value in registry.

All happy! 32 minutes. No hiccups, burps or other nasty gyrations. ISO, also.

Mine went through on both machines with nary glitch nor hitch. Maybe the software is "stable?" It's looking increasingly ready for general release, IMO. Hope I'm right about that...

Agreed, but the underlying code base for RS3 looks pretty good. Thanks for reminding what the heck it is we're talking about. Had to laugh at myself when I read your comment. "Oh yeah," I thought: "We're talking about the skipahead stuff, that's right!" ;-)

  10. About 1 hour and 40 minutes from start to finish including ISO. Now it's time to look around.

They could release it now, and fix any crinkles with cumulatives, but that wouldn't set well with the masses. Has to be as bullet-proof as they can get it before starting the party.

No, if you're not on Skip Ahead, things will proceed as per normal; i.e. Fast Ring/Slow Ring until the Fall Update is RTM'd. IOW, we'll continue to get bug fixes and such, but no new features to speak of.

Once the Fall Update is released, Skip Ahead will basically cease to be and things will proceed to RS 4 for the rest of us, pretty much the same as they did with the last RTM.

Just saw this as I am performing Disk Cleanup on a Windows 10 Pro VM updated to 16278. Since I'm still in Debian I'm going to see what updates to 16363 I can find on Windows 10 Enterprise Skippy and Windows Eduction Skippy Skippy. Then I;ll pick up the update 16363 on my physical machine. Looks like Skippy is but a minor fork in the road and we will all be working on RS4 within a month.

Since UUP was introduced in December, I have never got to Restart now phase under three hours, making my fastest total upgrade time about four and a half hours (from Restart now back to upgraded desktop = 90 minutes, give or take 10 minutes). With last Skippy build 16273 I made a new record, slowest ever upgrade getting to restart now in about six hours, total time eight and a half hours (as posted here).

Now I was positively surprised, thinking I will get all time fastest UUP upgrade when WU showed Status: Installing - 91% only after an hour and 50 minutes. However, it's still showing 91%, stopwatch I started as soon as upgrade was found showing this:

Almost 40 minutes at 91%. No new record today.

    EDIT:

Just after posting the above, it jumped to 92%. A record time might still be possible *Smile
