Windows 10: Announcing Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise availability on Surface Hub 2

Todayâs environment requires different kinds of flexibility to make people and teams as productive as possible. Itâs never been more important to empower every worker, employee, and student with the tools they need to collaborate whether they are together in person or connected remotely. Surface Hub 2S can help bridge the gap and connect people wherever they are whether in traditional workspaces and classrooms or in personal offices and offsite locations.

To further support this new way of working and learning, weâre excited to bring a new configuration of Surface Hub 2S with Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise available today. Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise on Surface Hub 2 enables individuals to use any application on their Surface Hub and creates a large screen meeting and collaboration experience â bringing collaboration, productive meetings and large screen productivity to any location including personal offices and learning spaces. Weâre bringing the full Windows 10 desktop experience to the Surface Hub 2S 50â.

Customers can now install the Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise on Surface Hub 2 configuration to maximize their productivity.

The Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise on Surface Hub 2 configuration enables customers to break the monotony of sitting at one's desk all day and allows our customers to stand, move around and meet with remote participants more naturally and invitingly.

Coming soon, users will be able to quickly sign in with Windows Hello using the Surface Hub 2 Fingerprint Reader which will be exclusively available for use with the Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise on Surface Hub 2 configuration.

With the availability of the Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise on Surface Hub 2 configuration, customers can also create custom kiosk mode configurations in targeted environments â just like you would on any Windows 10 PC. The possibilities are endless with the Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise on Surface Hub 2 configuration.

Prepare for Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise on Surface Hub 2

We designed Surface Hub to provide a rich and immersive collaboration experience for anyone to walk up and use without the need to authenticate. For this, we built Surface Hub with a purpose built OS, the Windows 10 Team edition â which we recently updated with the 2020 Public Preview.

To install Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Enterprise on Surface Hub 2, youâll need to make sure that your Surface Hubâs UEFI version is 694.2938.768.0 or later. Use the Surface app on your Surface Hub 2S to check your deviceâs UEFI version. If your UEFI version isnât 694.2938.768.0 or later, update your Surface Hub 2S from the Settings app.

To install Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Enterprise on your Surface Hub 2S 50â, you will need to confirm you have the necessary license and apply changes to the deviceâs UEFI by enrolling your device in Surface Enterprise Management Mode (SEMM). These changes will unlock the deviceâs factory settings that only allow the Windows 10 Team OS to run on Surface Hub 2S 50â.

To create a UEFI configuration package, you will need to download and install the Surface UEFI Configuration Manager from the Surface Tools for IT webpage.

Creating a SEMM package requires a certificate. Follow the instructions in Migrate to Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise on Surface Hub 2 to obtain one.

Use your imaging tool of choice to create a bootable Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Enterprise installation USB drive. If youâre familiar enough with SEMM, you can copy the UEFI configuration package files to the root of the Windows 10 installation USB drive and use a single USB drive throughout the process. Alternatively, you can use 2 USB drives, one for the SEMM package and one for the Windows 10 installation media.

After completing the Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Enterprise installation, download and install the Surface Hub 2 Drivers MSI. Check other post-install tasks.

Surface Pro X - Windows Enterprise

This is an interesting question about the newly announced Windows 10 on ARM Surface Pro X, and I don't think it's as simple as Sumit has suggested here.

If you're looking to run Windows 10 Enterprise, can I assume that you're thinking about deploying the Pro X as a corporate device?

A Windows 10 on ARM device raises a number of questions for me in the Enterprise. Are you thinking about how you could deploy Windows 10 Enterprise to this device using SCCM and traditional device management tools? I suspect that this device would not have
PXE boot capabilities and would need to be deployed and managed with tools like Autopilot and Intune.

If this is the track you're looking down, let me know and I'll find out what I can as the devices become generally available.

Firmware updates available for Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2

The following update will be available in Windows Update and listed as “System Firmware Update – 2/24/2016” when you view your update history.

Note
When Surface updates are provided via the Windows Update service, they are delivered in stages to Surface customers. As a result, not every Surface will receive the update at the same time, but the update will be delivered to all devices. If you have not received the update then please manually check Windows Update later.

Surface Pro System Aggregator Firmware update (v2.84.450.0) eliminates instances where the device wakes randomly.

Surface Cover Audio driver update (v1.0.360.0) improves system stability when detaching the cover.

Surface Tools for IT Update for Surface Pro and Surface Laptop

We are pleased to announce that today we’ve released new versions of the Surface Tools for IT Pros with support for the new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop. This update includes new versions of the Surface Enterprise Management Mode (SEMM) tools Surface UEFI Configurator and Surface UEFI Manager, Surface Dock Updater (SDU), Surface Data Eraser (SDE), and Surface Deployment Accelerator (SDA). You can download these updated tools from the Surface Tools for IT page in the Microsoft Download Center.

Surface Deployment Accelerator

Surface Deployment Accelerator v2.0.8.0 supports deployment of the new Surface Pro.

Note: Surface Deployment Accelerator v2.0.8.0 provides support only for Surface Pro and does not replace Surface Deployment Accelerator v1.96.0405 which supports Surface 3, Surface Pro 3, and Surface Book.

Surface Data Eraser

Surface Data Eraser v3.2.36 adds support for the storage devices of Surface Studio, Surface Pro, and Surface Laptop.

Note: The Surface Data Eraser USB creation utility cannot run in a Windows 10 S environment. To erase the storage device of a Surface Laptop with Windows 10 S, you must first create the Surface Data Eraser USB drive using another computer with a Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise environment.
Note: Surface Pro devices with 1TB storage are not currently supported by Surface Data Eraser.

Surface Dock Updater

Surface Dock Updater v2.1.15.0 adds support for Surface Pro and Surface Laptop.

Note: The Surface Dock Updater utility cannot run in a Windows 10 S environment. Surface Dock devices connected to Surface Laptop with Windows 10 S will receive firmware updates through Windows Update and do not require the Surface Dock Updater to stay up-to-date. If you wish to check the firmware version of a Surface Dock, or to manually update a Surface Dock, connect the Surface Dock to a Surface device with a Windows 10 Pro or Enterprise environment.

Surface Enterprise Management Mode

Surface UEFI Configurator v1.0.74.0 adds support for Surface Pro and Surface Laptop and a new ability to generate a USB drive with WinPE that can be used to enroll a device in Surface Enterprise Management Mode.

Surface UEFI Manager v2.2.21 adds for Surface Pro and Surface Laptop.

Note: The Surface UEFI Configurator and Surface UEFI Manager cannot run in a Windows 10 S environment. Surface Laptop devices running Windows 10 S can be enrolled in SEMM using the USB drive generated by the Surface UEFI Configurator, or otherwise can be enrolled by upgrading the device to Windows 10 Pro or Windows 10 Enterprise.
