    Hello Community!

I have a laptop for work and occasional gaming, I run games from Steam and use an Xbox One controller. Even though is not a gaming laptop I could play several AAA titles on 720p and low or medium settings getting 30+ FPS, not awesome but playable. Here are the specs:

System Model: Asus X556UAK, BIOS version 312

    CPU: i5-7200U, 2.71Ghz -3.1Ghz

GPU: Intel HD 620 driver 24.20.100.6286 from 8/14/2018

    RAM: 8GB DDR4

    HDD: 256GB SSD

    OS: Windows 10 Home 64-bit build 171134

Page file: 4325MB used 5671MB available

My problem began with the big updates for Windows 10 and have remained over Anniversary, Creators, Fall Creators and April 2018 updates to this day. During gameplay at any random moment, the FSP drops following a sequence like this:

    • About 3 – 7 seconds at 1FPS
    • About 5 seconds on 3 FPS
    • About 4 seconds on 5 FPS
    • From this point it slowly increases (9, 12, 18, 22, etc.) to reach to the normal value.
    • The whole process takes about 20 seconds.

I have noticed this with all my games, even non-AAA indie ones like limbo. FPS drop can happen at game launch, loading screen, menus and settings, when loading a saved state, combat or intense scenes, it is unpredictable. It also happens several times per gaming session. I have experienced about 1.5 – 2.5 hours without it sometimes but like a time bomb at some random time it is triggered again. This is annoying and frustrating.

I have done clean installations after formatting the PC, all drivers up to date, have disabled antivirus, have disabled Game DVR, Game Bar and even uninstalled the Xbox App, have reduced the page file size, have used the new GPU settings to select my game and run it in high performance mode, have tried to reduce windows load by disabling widows services and processes (checking a guide of course), have use ShutUp10 to disable features regarding sending data to Microsoft, have run games in compatibility mode, etc.

Since the first big update of Windows 10, something got broken for my specific hardware, before it I never had any significant or lasting fps drop. I have checked a few resources online but don’t know what else to try. I appreciate any help or guidance, hopefully someone had and solved the same problem with 7gen intel HD graphics. Thanks a lot.

    :)
