    another problem with upgrade

    OldMike65, I'm using just one partition now for this troubleshooting of 100gigs. My Reflect show that partition (100g C) plus a 315meg boot partition. When I had 5 other partitions it showed them. I don't save my backups to my main drive. I learned the hard way when my drive failed. I backup to an external AND a flash drive just to be safe. But, I have some good news and some bad news which I was able to overcome. I did the updates and the computer still worked after them!!! Start menu was still there as was my right clicking, task manager and WiFi. Hooray!! Now for the bad. I couldn't shut down the machine after the updating. Left it for an hour and finally had to do a hard shutdown. I thought that was going to ruin all of my good work but when I rebooted things were fine except for the shut down. But I was able to fix the problem in power options. Now it boots and shuts down like it's supposed to do. Many thanks to you guys for your help. Not calling this one solve ....just yet. After a little more confidence I'll mark it as solved.

    Well the is GREAT NEWS!!! Very happy for you!!! *Party*Party I save mine to my 2nd drive, its NOT my Main drive. I have 1 SSD that's my C drive and my Main drive, my WD is my 2nd drive. I also use 1 external drive too.
    Glad you solved your shutdown issue, strange that it happened thou. I hope you are at build 10586.122 which would make you up to date. Be aware some apps, do not get along with Windows 10 !!!! I have no idea what kind of apps or AV type programs you are installing or running, but some programs don't run well with Windows 10. Most do .....just a few can cause problems.

    Take care collieman Glad everything is running good for you. *Thumbs*Thumbs

    @collieman
    Ahh I did not partition my SSD into 4 primaries. My C drive only has ONE Primary which is C:\ Those other partitions Windows makes when it does a Clean install, properly. I deleted everything on the SSD drive, then clean installed Windows, and during the install Windows make those partitions during the clean install. My D drive is a separate Hard drive, not an SSD drive, its a spinner ....(mechanical) that only needs 1 partition, as its not a boot drive. Very surprised you don't know this actually. You have to have at least 2 of those same partitions, or your Windows wouldn't boot.
    But....as long as your computer is running good, then your all set. That's all that matters in the end. *Smile

    Please turn off Fast Startup, give it a few real shutdowns/startups (not restarts) and everything should be fine.*Wink

    To understand what this is/does (it was first introduced in Windows 8):
    “Fast Startup (aka: hybrid boot or hybrid Shutdown) is a new feature in Windows 8 to help your PC start up faster after shutting down. When turned on, Windows 8 does this by using a hybrid shutdown (a partial hibernate) method that saves only the kernel session and device drivers (system information) to the hibernate (hiberfil.sys) file on disk instead of closing it when you shut down your PC. This also makes the hiberfil.sys file to be much smaller than what hibernate would use (often 4GB or more). When you start your PC again, Windows 8 uses that saved system information to resume your system instead of having to do a cold boot to fully restart it. Using this technique with boot gives a significant advantage for boot times, since reading the hiberfile in and reinitializing drivers is much faster on most systems (30-70% faster on most systems tested). If you have a motherboard with UEFI, then fast startup will be even faster.”

    Great to hear! *Thumbs
