Windows 10: Ant+ Stick only works in USB Hub

I have a, in my opinion, strange issue.

I use a Garmin Ant+ stick to collect cycling data while on a stationary trainer. I had purchased a Lenovo Yoga early 2018. It only has 1 usb port so I purchased a 4 port USB hub so I could increase my number of ports a second screen and hardline to ethernet. I plugged in my Ant+ stick and the computer did not respond. Downloaded all the proper drivers googled the heck out of it and came up empty. I assumed the Ant+ stick some how went bad. I purchased a new one. When I plugged this in, the computer responded, but it showed the device not recognized (the last USB you plugged in malfunctioned and Windows did not recognize it). Eff.

By sheer frustration, i went to my desk and plugged in my USB hub. I said what the heck and plugged in the Ant+ stick. Would you believe me if I told you that I now have two Ant+ sticks that work completely fine? Has anyone come across this before? Why does this device work fine when plugged into the USB hub and fails miserably when directly plugged into the USB port? I will admit I had to make some changes to get the USB hub to work, but I can't remember what was done. I've got no problem using the hub while I train, but I just don't understand what's going on.

USB HUB

Hi,

Incompatible USB hub driver is one of the possible reasons why this issue is happening. We recommend uninstalling the USB Root Hub driver and see if it helps. Follow the stepes below:

• Open Device Manager.
  
• Double-click Universal Serial Bus controllers to expand.
  
• Right-click USB Root Hub, then click Properties.
  
• Go to the Driver tab.
  
• Click Uninstall.
  
• Restart your computer.
  

Note: Restarting your computer will automatically reinstall a generic driver for your computer. Also, we suggest connecting your USB hub while performing the steps.

If the issue still persists, let's disable the USB selective suspend settings thru Power Options to resolve the issue. Follow the steps below:

• Type Power Options in the search box, then press Enter.
• Locate USB settings > USB selective suspend settings.
• Select Disable.

MTT/Multi-TT USB Hubs

Does anyone know of a list of multi-TT (as opposed to a single-transaction-translator) USB 2.0 hubs?

What about USB 3.0? I'm not sure if it is a worthy consideration with USB 3.0 or not.

 

Installing windows off of a USB stick

Step By Step from vista:
From admin cmd prompt

1. diskpart
1a. list disk
2. select disk 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive

xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ (d being your vista cd and e being your usb stick)

And that's it, boot off your usb disk
