Any suggestions for a anti virus software ?

The Malwarebytes Pro option was already mentioned. Check my post out again.

  2. Paying for AV is a waste, it is actually all those premium features, which cause problems, the less the better.

When you install AV, choose the minimal setup, like with Avast, un-check optional features with others.

The best free antivirus 2016 | TechRadar - you can try all and keep the one you will find reliable.

  3. *SmileWe share that opinion,I've used AVG free and Avast free going back many years ,outside of the upgrade nagware both are fine IMO and Tech Radar is decent IMO .... first thing on this new HP PC OEM bloatware that was tossed before I rolled in the 14393 AU on the OEM HDD and 10586th2 was an operating trial MaCafee bloatware plus *really

I even ran the MaCafee cleaner exe and removed any related registry keys left after that in regedit and mayybe i ran Ccleaner before all that ,that I seldom use but I think thier was so much MaCafee bloatware plus left over I used the Ccleaner reg tool

I can get full boat MaCafee bloatware plus free from my ISP but choose not to .

I just run win 10 defender and nbam and mbam Antiransomware beta and mbam free Anti Exploit real time protections .......all free and don't use Edge or IE Explorer aka malware funnel .
The malware geysers haven't bothered 4 win 10 PC here *sarc

  4. Any suggestions for a anti virus software ?

    Hi:

    Yes, indeed.
Replies #4 and #5 both mentioned Malwarebytes "Free or Pro" for protection.
So, in reply #6 I merely sought to clarify the difference between the versions and why I did so (mostly for the OP and others who might read this thread).
    Nothing more, nothing less.
And, certainly, I meant no personal offense.
I sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding.

    Cheers,
    MM

My experience was different. When I was testing Malwarebytes anti ransomware I was getting way to many false positive. This was causing programs to be deleted.

360 is good but it's also a false positives fest.

may i suggest norton. norton is decent enough to protect me by methodically scanning incoming downloads of every kind. and it automatically purges dangerous downloads even from reputable sites like cnet and softonic. they were stock browsers.

I just installed 10, but I am using Defender, Superantispyware Pro, Malewarebytes Free, Malewarebytes Anti-exploit, and Bit Defender Ransomeware, and all are playing nicely together so far.

I'd been using AVG Free for a few years, when I got lured into Avast!. I actually found Avast Free to be pretty good. Less intrusive than AVG. Then I paid Avast! for the Pro version. And you know, I didn't like it... because it kept trying to get me to add more options. After my license expired I went back to the free version. Now their free version has ads, and you can't turn them off unless you pay for it.

Rather than trying to solicit opinions on what anti-virus is best (because there will be tons of different opinions) can anyone suggest a recent anti-virus program "shoot out" or comprehensive review that's worthwhile to read or watch?

Most of those AVs comparatives may be biased.

Naturally. It's almost as bad as politics. But, if you respect the speaker then it's good to know their choice and why.

My approach has been to use Defender and the free version of Malwarebytes. If something is stubbord (keeps coming back after running Mwb) I run (free) Emisoft Emergency Toolkit just as a second option.

I do use the Chrome extension ScriptSafe for some feedback as to what is actually on the sites I visit and I've been able to keep the trackers allowed to a minimum. I think doing this, staying with Chrome and watching what I download and the sites I visit keeps most problems at bay.

The Emisoft Emergency Toolkit can even be put on a thumbdrive and can be used even if a virus takes your internet out or messes with your hard drive installed anti-virus programs.

  15. I use Norton with Zemana antimalware running in the background.
Neither seems to slow my pc down and I rarely get a problem.
