  1. Anyone use a spam filter program? Do they work?

    Hi All,
My spam seems to be increasing and I am considering using a spam filter program. There are a few on the market.
    Spamilator, Mailwasher etc
Do they work? If so, any recommendations please?
    Thanks!

    :)

  2. email on n82

The phone has no spam filter.

Avoiding spam should be done on the email server. Eg using Google mail will filter the spam automatically. Thus reading your Gmail account will show only the normal emails, not anymore the SPAM.

I do not know if Yahoo also has a default spam filter as GMAIL has.

Nevertheless I never heard of a SPAM filter on the phone. Maybe with third party email software ?

    Windows mail/ Spam

Windows Mail is not an email client like Microsoft Office Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird. A 'client' in this instance means a program that you install on your computer. Email clients like Outlook and Thunderbird have spam filters that you can customize to
your liking, or you can dispense with the spam filter and instead decide on your own what is and isn't spam, which seems to be what you prefer.

Windows Mail is really just an interface for your webmail accounts like GMail or Outlook.com or Yahoo!, etc., which do their own spam filtering. There's very little that you can do to control a webmail provider's spam filter. If there's spam that the webmail
provider's own filter isn't stopping you can create a custom filter for your account, and if the webmail provider filtered a message that isn't spam you can mark it 'not spam,' but that's as far as you can go.

This is just my opinion, and you're welcome to disagree, but I never understood why someone would want to use Windows Mail when it's so easy to go straight to GMail, Outlook.com, etc., with one click on a bookmark. What does Windows Mail add that you can't
do with any of the webmail providers? Additional software is one more potential point of failure.

This has been my 10,000th post in this forum, so I think it's time to hang it up.

My previous 9,999 posts have received 5,331 upvotes (a 53% approval rating) and more than 10% (1,181) have been marked as answers.

I've gone from being a clueless computer wrecker to a confident computer user, which shows that anyone can succeed with Windows 10. All it takes is some determination.

That's all from me, so after 10,000 posts here is my last word: Backup.

Anyone use a spam filter program? Do they work?

I actually use gMail to process my spam.

A free gmail account has the ability to check and collect emails from a number of other POP3 based email servers and then organise and present them for reading, Gmail works with POP3 or IMAP (recommended for anyone who wishes to check from more than one device, and has Broadband Internet access).

Gmail's default spam filters are IMO at least as good as the specialist programs on sale and it also allows you simply add to the filters for your specific needs, (just click the mark as spam button, for anything that does not end up in the spam bin that you feel is spam).

Spam is automatically deleted from the spam bin after thirty days but I tend to check every few days just in-case anything has been incorrectly classed as spam (extremely rare in my experience)

You can also create rules to control anything that, although is not specifically spam, you wish to clear from your inbox but save to read later, (I use it to save away my regular informational emails that I have subscribed to
