Windows 10: Aorus B450 M bios seeing 16gb of ram Windows only seeing half.

Hi guys,


I am having an issue with windows 10 not seeing all of my ram in my computer. The thing is my bios actually sees it. I ran memtest and Memory diagnostic and it showed no issues. my ram is Gskill Tridentz Rgb F4-3200c16D-16gtzr.

I have also reinstalled windows and did unchecked maximum memory with no change. Its just not seeing it. also My motherboard does not function with just one ram it needs 2 to function.

Also My motherboard does not come with intergrated graphics.

Win10 only see half of ram installed

I have a problem with my new build.

Win10 only sees half of my ram installed. I have Corsair vengeance Rgb Pro 16gb installed but Win10 only says i have 8gb (7,95).

Bios show all 16gb, Cpu-z show all 16gb (and says they dual channel)

Corsair iCue sees both ram, and i can adress both rgb.

Nzxt CAM also sees both stick.

Win10 and Dxdiag does only show 8gb. (0gb used for orher hardware)

i have tried the msconfig->boot->advance settings and checked the box for maximum memory on and off after restarts.

I have tried every combo of one ram stik i MB in each slot, and both ram i both slots. My MB is a ITX so i only have 2 dimm ports.

My spec:

Ryzen 5 1600x

Gigabyte Aorus B450 i Wifi Pro

Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 2x8gb 3200mhz (kit)

RTX2080

Win 10 is Pro 64bit.

Hi all,

my system only recognize half of the installed RAM, meaning I've got 4x4GB installed, BIOS sees the whole 16GB, but Windows 10 PRO x64 see only 8GB. I've got a Gigabyte board with an H170 chipset and Gigabyte support
says that is a Windows problem. Have anyone come across to this problem? Are there any solutions?

Here is the correspondence that I got from Gigabyte:

1st Question:

I’ve just upgraded my PC, migrating from a Gigabyte P55M-UD2 motherboard to a H170M-D3H DDR3 while keeping my old 16GB of RAM kit. The 4x4GB kit runs at 1.5volts and according to Corsair is ver. 4.19 which means that uses Samsung’s 256Mx8 ICs. The problem is
that BIOS recognize the whole 16GB of RAM, but Windows 10 PRO x64 only half of it, i.e. 8GB. I run CPUz and tells me that 16GB are installed. I run windows’ memory diagnostics and found no error. Also, I’ve tried removing the 4 Dimms off the motherboard and
tested a single 4GB Dimm at a time and my PC worked with no issues. I lowered the memory speed in BIOS from 1866 to 1333MHz and the problem remained. Finally, I formatted the SSD, reinstalled Windows and I made sure that the maximum memory box under the “system
configuration” tab is “unticked”, and still no success. Hence, by doing all the above-mentioned and having used the particular kit to my previous Gigabyte board with no issues, I tend to believe that the RAM is not faulty. Can you please point me a solution?
Is there any BIOS setting that I’m missing?

Answer:

Dear Mr ***,

This model supports only maximum to memory 1866MHz with XMP supported.

The memory size issue is related to Windows 10, not motherboard.

Due to the fact that is necessary to have 16GB of RAM installed on my PC for my work, can you provide more details regarding the nature of the problem with windows 10? Will a 2x8GB of RAM kit solve the problem?

P.S. I've also checked my system with a friend's 4x4GB DDR3L RAM kit with no success.

Same issue can be observed on other brand of motherboards, it is issue in Windows 10.

In Windows 7, same bios, there is no issue.

Windows (10) and BIOS can see only half of the memory (16gb/32gb) only two slots are active at time

Take another peek at the pictures he provided in the first post. The BIOS shows each DIMM but on the first BIOS page, it only says the total is 16GB. So even the BIOS is showing all DIMMs but only half the total capacity. I was about to suggest looking at msconfig to see if a max memory cap was there but, that wouldn't explain the 16GB number in the BIOS.

As far as CPU-Z showing all 32GB, it could be the tool adding up the totals from SPD and not reading how much is available with respect to what's actually usable but, that's only a guess.

As I said earlier, if there is a DIMM slot that's bad, the OP should be able to run one DIMM in every slot, or at the very least, two DIMMs per channel at once.

Personally, I would test with the following DIMM slots populated:
a1, a2, b1, b2, a1 + b1, a1 + a2, b1 + b2

That will cover every DIMM slot, so assume it's not a physical issue with the board, the machine should boot and detect 8GB for the one DIMM tests, and 16GB for the two DIMM tests in every configuration listed.

Personally, I have a hunch that only 8GB might show up with DIMMs in A1+A2 or B1+B2, as opposed to running in dual channel as A1+B1.
