  1. App Are Not Working Properly After I Messed With SysWOW64's Permissions

I tried to change the KernalBase.dll file in the SysWOW64 folder because one of my games keeps crashing because of that dll file. I somehow managed to give permissions of syswow to me from TrustedInstaller. I think I did that with sharing SysWow64 with advanced sharing option from properties and than changing the owner from the security tab in properties. Running sfc scannow command on cmd didn't work for me so I changed the dll manually. I fixed the game and played yesterday. Now I started my pc and apps like steam, kaspersky and browser assistant for opera gx is not opening with the error of

    App Permissions

    Hi Tony,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

Some apps require certain permissions to work properly. However, you can change the permissions given to the apps by following the below steps:

    1. Click on Start.
    2. Click on Settings and then click on Privacy.
    3. Under the App Permissions you can change the permissions which are assigned for the apps.

However, you can go through the
    Microsoft Privacy Statement
    .

    Hope it helps.

  3. set folder permissions in SysWow64

    Hey all,

Years ago our system admins were using one or 2 service accounts for everything, tasks, services, IIS app pools, etc. Now we're working on cleaning that up and using gMSA's for these things.

My problem is folder permissions for a gMSA. I've got the IIS app pool identity set to <domain>\<gmsa>$ and the initial web app is loading the home page. But when i try to use the functions in the page i'm getting failures. Using the process monitor i've
found that the gMSA doesn't have access to the IIS config files in c:\windows\syswow64\inetsrv\ If i change to another account it work fine.

My first thought was to go and add the account in the folder security, but that's all greyed out. I was reading online that i could set the gMSA as a system administrator, but we don't want to give these accounts that much access.

Is that the only option? or is there a way with PowerShell i can modify the inetsrv folder in syswow64 for the gMSA to have access?

Oh and this is on server 2012r2, please move this post if needed.
