Windows 10: Apple SD Card Reader disappears from the Device Manager after Sleep Mode, reboot is required

I have Mac Book Air 13 and Windows 10 rev 2004 installed with Bootcamp drivers. It looses embedded SD card reader each time when I close the laptop cover e.g. enter sleep mode. It becomes a hidden device. Reboot is requited to see the card reader again.


I've disabled "USB Selective Suspend" settings in Power Options Advanced Power Settings and also "Allow the computer to turn off this device" in Device Manages for all USB Controllers in Device Manages, including Apple SD Card Reader. These are common solutions to disable sleep mode for USB devices as Mac card reader is connected to USB3 hub, but they do not give a positive effect.


The problem with sleep mode do not allow to use Transcend JetDrive Lite 130 card under Windows. In MasOS Captain the card reader and JetDrive Lite card work properly.


Any other recommendations/solutions?

Internal SD Card Drive not Returning/Waking up after Sleep/Hibernate

Solution: (1) Select the SD-Card in Device Manager. Then in the "view" menu select devices by connection. Click on properties of "Apple SD Card Reader" (which is the parent of "Apple SD Card Reader USB Device"). Then in the Power-Management tab uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". Then do a restart.
(2) This method will successfully reactivate the "card reader" or the "thunderbolt-ethernet-adapter" after hibernation without having to lock the screen.
(3) When the computer is woken up after being in sleep mode, you need to put it into hibernation. After coming out of hibernation all your devices will be there again. This is a little bit cumbersome, but this workaround will save you from restarting your computer.

 

Can't find SD Card Reader in Device Manager

Hi FriedMouse,

I'm having the same problem. I just tried going into the Services application and manually starting the Smart Card and Smart Card Device..., but the SD card is still not recognized and there is still no SD card reader driver listed in Device Manager.

Anyone have a solution?

 

SD card/SD card reader no longer working

Bradleyb, in your Device Manager do you have anything listed in Storage Controllers? I get an entry for MMC/SD. I just checked a 1GB SD card and a 4GB SDHC card, both worked in File Explorer to show their contents.




Side note: A caveat for such cards is that if they are to be used in a camera they need to be formatted in the camera, not in Windows.
