Windows 10: Application error 0xc0000096 on Windows 10

This week, after I have installed some Windows 10 update (KB4457128) on my Acer laptop, when I open Google, I get this Windows application error message: "The exception Privileged instruction. (0xc0000096) occurred in the application at location 0x00000000777108813. Click on Ok to terminate the program."

While clicking on Ok removes that screen message, I don't want to see it every time I open Google. What can be done to fix this?

Application was unable to start correctly 0xc0000096 after 5.5.2017 Windows 10 Update

After installing the Windows 10 Update described here (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17218/windows-10-whats-new-in-this-update) I found that I was unable to launch one of my exes.

"Application was unable to start correctly 0xc0000096. Click OK to close the application."

I was able to fix this error by going back to an earlier build of Windows 10. The reason I'm still posting this even though my game + mod work at the moment is that if I update to the current version of Windows 10 again, it will likely break my exe again.
I'm posting this in the hope that I will at some point be able to update to a current version of Windows 10 that doesn't break my stuff.

 

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

WMPlayer win32 error

List the EXACT "blah, blah" you mention, here please... for ALL installation cases!

(Sound like a possible "DLL-Hell" issue, but "Windows File Protection" &/or "System File Protection" should have countered for this... no biggie, there's ways around that too!)
