  2. Disk management console view is not up-to-date

i dont know how to fix your disk management, but i can fix your partition problems...

open up Command Prompt with admin rights. (Right click, run as admin)

    enter in
    DISKPART
    list disk

then find the Disk number for your Raid array... lets call it number 7 ( you can tell what disk is what by the total size)
    type in

    Select Disk 7
List Partition (will give you a list of all the partitions..)
Select Partition 1 (im assuming you only have 1 partition on Disk 7) repeat this step if you have more partitions.
    ASSIGN

that should get the array up and running ready to use.

    EDITED.

    any problems, post back ^^

Still EDITING *Stick Out Tongue Are Diskpart and Disk Management on the same PC??? :p

side question, have you tried restarting the PC?

  3. Disk showing in Disk Management, But not DiskPart

    Hello!

So, today I was doing a friend a favor, he had an old 1TB hard drive with important photos on it. He said he would appreciate it if I could move the photos to a different hard drive.

So, I hooked it up to my self-built PC (with a SATA port) and it didn't show up in file explorer.

So, I checked Disk Management to see if it would show up there, and it did. I later realized why it didn't show up in file explorer (Because it didn't have a drive letter). In Disk Management, I right clicked the primary partition only to find that it wouldn't
let me assign a drive letter.

I remembered there was another way to assign drive letters, with DiskPart. So I typed this into Command Prompt:

    diskpart > list volume

In DiskPart, It showed the drive's EFI system partition (partition 1) but not the (Healthy) Primary Partition (partition 2).

Also in DiskPart, I could type "list disk" and it would show me the 1TB drive, if I then typed "list partition" it would show me the different partitions, but wouldn't let me assign a drive letter to them.

In summary, Disk Management showed the partition, but wouldn't assign a drive letter. DiskPart showed the partition 1, but not the primary partition.

My objective is to show the photos located on the 1TB drive's 2nd partition without erasing it.

I would be happy to add pictures if necessary.

    Thanks!

  4. Are Diskpart and Disk Management on the same PC???

Installing 2nd HDD, disk management not starting and diskpart not starting

    Greetings,

Got a new computer, installed everything last week, everything working out, for reference, running Windows 10 on a 500GB SSD drive, install runs fine, updated drivers, got windows updated, no problems.

Decided to get a secondary drive for storage, a Western Digital HDD, 2TB blue drive. Plugged it in, and its recognized in device manager, with no errors. Tried to start up Disk Management via the Administrative Tools menu so I could initialize/format/partition
the drive, but disk management message states:

"Disk Management could not start Virtual Disk Service (VDS) on [computer name]. This can happen if the remote computer does not support VDS, or if a connection cannot be established because it was blocked by Windows Firewall."

At this point, my research concluded that VDS was either not running or the drive was faulty. I went to services.msc and started VDS manually, and disk management would still not start. Then I set VDS to start-up automatically, and restarted, still no luck.
After some more research, I set Remote Access Connection Manager to disabled, and Remote Access Auto Connection Manager to disabled, then set VDS properties to Auto startup, and then on the Log On tab I set Local System account and checked "Allow service to
interact with desktop" and then in the recovery tab, set First Failure, Second Failure, and Subsequent Failures to "Take No Action." Tried Disk Management again and it still repeats the same message.

After all this, still no luck starting Disk Management. Next step was to verify the drive status. I downloaded Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic and everything checks out ok with the drive.

Then i decided to try using diskpart.exe to install the HDD, so I went to cmd.exe and right clicked to run as administrator, with the command line prompt appearing, however when I type in diskpart, cmd displays the dispart info and returns to the cmd line
    prompt thusly:

    ------------------------------------------------------------

    C:\Windows\system32>diskpart

    Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation.

    On computer: [computer name]

    C:\Windows\system32>

    --------------------------------------------------------------

Trying to run list disk results in:

    -------------------------------------------------------------

    C:\Windows\system32>list disk

'list ' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

    C:\Windows\system32>diskpart

    ---------------------------------------------------------------

and it appears that diskpart is not running because I'm not getting a DISKPART> command line prompt. All I want to do is initialize/format/partition this new HDD and start using it as a secondary drive and as far as I can tell, the drive works fine, but
disk management is not connecting to Virtual Disk Service, and diskpart is not letting me do anything with the command line prompt... Help!
