Windows 10: ASUS F510U with Windows 10

I bought this computer for my gf a few months ago and it was running fine until one day the fingerprint scanner quit reading her fingerprint and apparently at the same time tells her that her password is incorrect. It also gives the option to use a pin, but she says she never set one up. She's tried the password she wrote down when she first set it up, and she's tried tons of others.

Even got on to her Microsoft account to try and adjust it all that way. Still nothing.

At one point I was able to hold shift and click reset to try a few different things in there, but everyone that I tried required her to put her password in. Same when you try turning it off as soon as it starts, I order for it to pull that up. Needs a password.

I have create a bootable USB to try and fix it that way, but now the shift and restart isn't actually taking me where it needs to.

She has important documents she doesn't want to lose, as well.

Which it doesn't matter cause I've even tried wiping it clean and starting over... Required a password.

There is also no option to change users or sign in as a guest or nothing.


I know next time I will definitely make sure there is a backup administrator account just in case. This is ridiculous.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
