Windows 10: Asus Notebook webcam error

I have an Asus Vivobook pro n580vd notebook.

Specs:

Intel i7 7700 HQ

Nvidia GTX 1050 4 GB

motherboard: asus x580vd

Win 10 home


Its built in camera did not work, when I bought it. Even the windows didn't recognise there was a webcam. It was fixed, the whole LED panel with the built in camera were replaced. Then the cam worked fine for some weeks. Now it is not working again, but the windows recognises that there is webcam. But it calls it "USB Boot" (Device manager > Cameras > USB Boot(!))

When it was working, the device manager called it: usb 2.0 uvc hd webcam. I tried to update the driver, reinstall, check the privacy and antivirus settings, and find the exact driver from the manufacturer Chiony, but nothing helped. Then I reseted windows 10 with clean reinstall and deleted all data. It didn't work as well.

What could be the solution?

Asus Webcam Driver

This has been an ongoing problem with ASUS notebooks. For convenience, ASUS installed their camera upside down in the lid of their notebook and customized the Windows 7 driver to flip the image. ASUS never upgraded their drivers to support Windows 8 and I don't expect they will for Windows 10 either. Microsoft builds a universal driver usbvideo.sys that works fine for the camera but does not have a provision to flip the image.

What remains needed is a registry option to flip the image for the Microsoft driver. Otherwise, our ASUS notebooks will be locked to Windows 7 forever.*Sad

 

Updating Webcam Drivers

I have an ASUS GL551JW with a built-in webcam. I am having sync issues between the audio and video when I use Camtasia 8.6. The software manufacture told me to check my webcam drivers.

I checked the drivers and they are from 2006. They are Microsoft drivers. I contacted ASUS and they couldn't provide me any information on updated drivers, but they were able to give me the following details about my webcam:

I have been searching online but I'm not finding anything that is helpful for obtaining updated drivers. Maybe there aren't any updated drivers, but I am hoping that they've been updated since 2006.

I have already downloaded the Intel chipset drivers from ASUS. I am not sure if that would include the webcam drivers. That's what ASUS told me to download.

Device Manager lists the webcam as: USB2.0 UVC HD Webcam. I am using Windows 10.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or can someone help me find some updated drivers for this webcam?

P.S. I am planning on buying a "real" webcam in the next couple months, but until then, I need to try to get this one working. Everything works fine on this webcam, and the video is good, it's just out of sync with any recorded audio.

 

Asus Webcam Driver


On my Asus-Notebook Windows has installed the usbvideo.sys driver for my webcam With this driver the picture is upside down in the camera app and also in Skype. The I installed the Windows 7 Driver USB 2.0 1.3 M UVC and in Skype the picture is right, but the camera app starts with an error and saying that the camera is in use. I tried with google to find some answers but I didn't find any usefull.

Perhaps here is someone who knows this problem.
