Amazon.com: Inateck USB 3.0 to SATA Adapter Cable for 2.5 Accessories

Use the cable to plug the new SSD into a USB port and then clone the HDD installed in the laptop to the SSD before installing the SSD. After you install the SSD, you can also use the same cable to connect the HDD to a USB port. It only works with laptop 2.5" drives, though - an external power supply is required for desktop 3.5" drives. My ASUS laptop has two internal drive bays - not sure if yours does or not. Mine came with two 1TB hard drives, I replaced the master hard drive with an SSD, and left the second 1TB HDD installed for data. If you have two drive bays, you can move the existing HDD to the second bay and install the SSD in the first bay.

Here's the more expensive version from Best Buy:

Macrium Reflect Free and MiniTool Partition Wizard are two free programs that will do the cloning for you.

I only go by the Youtube videos if I get stuck when the manual falls short. Get the Service manual for your unit, since it will show you the reverse of how it was put together. Also when you put in the second antenna if you do not have one already. You need to make sure that the larger foil tape stays attached to the smaller. Bluetooth may not work, since every machine does not see that particular pin on the adapter. The max you should see is 867mbps if you have the AC1900 set for both 2.4GHz and 5GHZ to be same SSID, try channel 3 for 2.4 and 100-112 for 5 Also make sure that the firmware on the AC1900 is up to date. There has been issues with Netgear not updating security holes in the firmware, like Ubiquiti has also failed to do.

I stayed separate gear on mine, since it is easier to just replace one item, then having to replace an all-in-one. The whole reason why I was able to keep my existing Cisco RV320 Gateway when I replaced the old Engenius EC350H A/P with a newer EAP1750H 2.4/5 a/b/g/n/ac A/P. With the newer firmware for that A/P, it gives me better band steering, able to better use the Wireless-ac and also fixes an issue with how it was using the 5GHz and 2.4GHz channels, which it was dropping the 2.4 when you would connect with certain devices at 5GHz.

My router is a Linksys WRT1900ACS. Good suggestion on getting the service manual for the ASUS N56VJ. Do you know where it can be downloaded?

Manual Owl has it. Asus N56JR | User's Manual for English Edition I have used the site in the past for our 2007 42" Panny Plasma and never had issues with any of the manuals on there. Holy crap. You have to tear it down all of the way. Get a left or right angle cord for the Linksys and place some hook & loop on the top of the back of the lid to get the USB adapter out of the way.

Thanks bro. Don't understand " Get a left or right angle cord for the Linksys and place some hook & loop on the top of the back of the lid to get the USB adapter out of the way." Not sure how this applies to opening the ASUS. Please explain. Thanks.

Bro67. Went to the site you mentioned and I can only find the User Manual, not the Service Manual.

I just noticed that when I got on my laptop. The one Youtube video I found on the Nxxx series , you are removing the bottom screws, popping the keyboard, etc to get to the infernal beast. Only one unit I saw where you can get to it from the cover over the RAM. As for the Left or Right angle end. Think of it as the front of the laptop is a Left, the back of the laptop is a Right. You do not want the left, because the cord will be pointing at you. Good for if you are using a hub for USB sticks and do not want to kill the USB port on the laptop. The Right allows you to run the cord up the back of the lid and then use the Hook and Loop to attach the adapter to where it would be higher and out of the way, but also get a better signal.

Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Adapter - No 5 GHz Reception

An update. I installed an Intel 7260 dual band wireless adapter in my ASUS without difficulty. To get the screw out of the adapter that the ASUS shipped with I had to take an utility knife and shave off some of the plastic frame that was partially covering it. Without doing that it appears I would have had to take the computer completely apart. After providing clearance for the screw head, everything was a snap.

Before replacing the adapter I used inSSIDer 4 to measure the 2.4 gHz signal strength. It read -56dBm. After replacing the adapter with the laptop at the same position the signal strength was -50 dBm. That is quiet a large signal increase. In addition, I now receive 5 gHz signals.

As recommended, while I had the computer back off I replaced by 750 GB HDD with a Crucial MX300 750 GB SSD. This has really made a tremendous difference in boot up and shutdown speeds. In addition, my big apps like LR and PhotoShop load so much quicker.

Again, thanks to all of you for your help. Have A Merry Christmas!

About your Signal "increase", I believe it is the other side round. The DB measures is related to SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) and the lower it is means that the reception quality decreases.
Anyway the 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies have very short wave lengths and any single obstacle will affect the signal. So, any slight move on Antennas position related to emission will affect signal
I would not make any high thoughts about signals.

Adalwar, you are wrong about the signal strength. The closer the signal level approaches zero from below (negative) the stronger the signal. For example -50 is much stronger than -80 for. My neighbor's WiFi signal runs about -86 which is much lower than my signal of -50dBm. You are thinking about Signal to Noise ratio which is not measured in dBm. It is just simply measured in dB. It is the signal strength relative the noise level expressed in dB.

As far as position of antennas effecting signal strength, I moved and rotated the laptop to see if signal strength changed where it was sitting and it did not.
