Windows 10: ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT Driver for iMAC running windows 10

I successfully installed Windows 7 on my mid 2007 iMac stuck at Mac OS X 10.9.5, using Boot Camp, and then updated to Windows 10 because my University is ending support for Windows 7.


It's a great computer, and while it's aging, I have 6 GB of RAM, 250 gb SSD, and it runs and looks great and I can continue to use it in my lab.


I noticed it is using a generic Microsoft display adapter and not an ATI branded driver. After reading a few threads in our Community and going to AMD web site, it looks like there may only be a Windows 8 version driver, but it's not clear if it's compatible or how to install under Windows 10.


I've read one thread about using Windows 7 compatibility mode, but before I take any chances, I figured I'd ask this group for clarification.



I downloaded the file "13-1-legacy_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc.exe" file from AMD/ATI web page, but am apprehensive about installing.


Any clear advice steps would be appreciated.

My notes say that the old AMD/Windows-Update driver version was

8.970.100.9000. The AMD kit I downloaded was

"13-1-legacy_vista_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc.exe", which claims to include an

"AMD Display Driver" version "8.970.100.7000", (only very) similar to

the old AMD/Windows-Update driver version, and quite unlike the new one.

Not especially helpful. I got the other kit from "Manually Select Your

Driver" on the same page.

ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT - Windows 10 Issue - Please help!


Hi,
I have the same old Sapphire Radeon HD 2400 XT graphic. I tried automatically installed drivers, manually installed 13.1 and 13.9 drivers, automatically installed drivers with CCC, but still experiencing very often crashes (both Windows 10 32/64bit).

The most of the crashes are without any dump file! Just fast flash and restart.
But I was also able to get the following dumps. Are they connected with this GPU or is it caused by something else?

1703 -> 1709 update ruined ATI/AMD Radeon HD 2400 XT operation

I'd been running GNU/Linux on this system for a few weeks, but I

switched it back to Windows yesterday. Windows Update had a small

backlog of updates to resolve. (I'd list them here, but copy+paste

seems ineffective on the "View installed update history" page.)

These seemed to have no effect on the (abhorrent) "Microsoft Basic

Display Driver", but one more round of Windows Update decided upon one

more thing (manually transcribed):

In any case, the Device Manager again says "ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT"
