Windows 10: Atrocious Bluetooth Microphone Quality on Windows 11

I've recently bought a Sony WH-1000XM5, mainly for travels and to use it in conference calls teams, etc while I am away from my home setup. The microphone quality is usually superb. Windows Bluetooth headphones bad sound quality

Notes:

I am using Bang & Olufsen bluetooth earbuds model Beoplay EX. When connected to Windows 11 the sound quality is absolutely atrocious.

Things I have tried:

1. disconnecting and reconnecting the bluetooth earbuds (forget and re-establish connection) - result: did not fix.
   
2. looked into sound settings - unable to select between hands-free and stereo therefore does not affect sound quality, still awful
   
3. use another device as microphone: does nothing
   

It seems as if Windows is using the driver for the hands-free mode rather than the headphone mode by default and there is not a way to change this thus resulting in awful sound quality thus making bluetooth headphones unusable.

 

Bluetooth microphone is not working on Windows 11.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your Bluetooth microphone on your Windows 11 device.

I would suggest you also try to Check the microphone settings. Please follow the steps below;

a. Right-click the sound icon on the taskbar and select "Open Sound settings."

b. Under "Input," select your Bluetooth headset as the default microphone.

c. Check the volume levels and make sure the microphone is not muted.

Bluetooth low quality microphone

i am using Windows 11 and the Sennheiser CX True Wireless Bluetooth Headset

Playback quality is ok, but i cannot use the microphone in a good quality.

The recording quality is very bad (not so on Android Smartphone or iPad - there ist perfect)

The Recording tab on sound device manager shows only (greyed, so not changeable) :

1 channel 16 bit 16000Hz

How can I change that to get higher quality?
