  1. Audio Input Not Being Detected by Apps

Hi, I've recently been having a lot of trouble with my audio input for all apps that I have which I use for communications. The exact nature of how the issue occurs is really strange to me. When I first open the app or begin using an audio input, it will receive the input to start, albeit quietly, but then over the course of 2-3 seconds it dies down until there is no longer any audio being detected in the app. Also, as for which apps I am using, I have had issues with Discord, Zoom, and Google Chrome.

When I go into the Windows Settings and test the audio input from my computer's built-in microphone, it shows that it is receiving input as pictured below.

I also accessed the audio device manager and checked the recording tab, with the same findings.

I have updated all possible drivers, updated all associated apps, ran the Recording Audio Troubleshooter, ensured that all apps have access to my microphone in the Privacy tab, restarted my computer, maximized the volume, and reinstalled the apps, but nothing has shown results.

The only solution I have found to this is plugging in a headphone jack connected to no external microphone, because I do not own an external microphone. The audio picked up by the lone headphone jack is quiet, but is picked up by the apps which I use nonetheless, which is an improvement.

What confuses me most about this issue is the fact that the apps all receive audio for a couple seconds but then quickly lose it as opposed to never receiving the audio in the first place. If anyone has a clue what might be causing this, I would be very appreciative!

    :)

Windows 10 Audio input to programs broken

Recently my audio input, from USB headset and USB guitar cable have stopped working. Going into Windows 'Sounds' and enabling 'Listen to this device' outputs the audio as expected; the problem is not with the devices. However, as soon as I try to use them with any other program, discord, for example, no audio input is detected by discord.

    I have tried everything I can think of and some suggestions from Googling around;

    • Updating everything - windows, drivers, all related software
    • Rolling windows back to the last build
    • Trying different USB ports
    • Reinstalling drivers and software
    • Running Windows troubleshooters
    • Playing with device properties settings

But nothing seems to work, any suggestions?

  3. audio input

    Hi Nico,

Damaged hardware or incompatible driver are some of the possible causes why you are experiencing an issue the audio input on your device. For us to provide an accurate solution, we would need you to answer the following questions:

    • Which build, version and edition of Windows is installed on your computer?
    • Are you using an external audio input device? If yes, what is the make and model of the audio input device you are using as microphone?
    • Have you made any changes to your computer settings before this issue happened?

In the meantime, we suggest running the automated troubleshooter for audio issue. Visit this link,
click on Find and fix problems recording sounds and then follow the prompts to successfully run the tool.

We are looking forward to your response.
