Audio louder than usual until volume is changed

I dunno if this will work for anyone else, but it solved the problem for me. In the Realtek driver thread, user wiggly1uk2000 posted this suggestion. Basically Windows is automatically adjusting the volume and reducing the volume of other sounds (by mistakenly increasing the sound of your main audio source, it seems). I still think it's a Windows 10 bug (as opposed to Realtek) as it's only supposed to kick in when it detects phone calls or communications activity, but changing my setting from "Reduce the volume of other sounds by 80%" to "Do nothing" and then restarting solved the problem for me. No more volume jumps.

Thank you so so much vfoster andwiggly1uk2000!!! After reading what you posted vfoster, I found the communications tab in the sound control panel and noticed mine was already set to "Do nothing" and my volume would spike every time I opened a new form of media. For whatever reason, I changed it from "Do nothing" to "Mute all other sounds" and my volume has not spiked even once ever since! I encourage everybody to play with the communications tab settings to see if this is also your problem. Additionally, I have the option "disable all sound effects" checked in Speaker Properties under the Enhancements tab. Thanks again *Biggrin

The important action is to go to Properties | Enhancements and then tick Disable all sound effects. Other changes suggested above appear to have no effect. It's clear that Realtek and/or Microsoft were trying to be too clever by offering sounds schemes to suit every need.

I have a Dell Precision M3800 and happens exactly de same since 1 week ago after upgrade to windows 10 *Mad*Mad*Mad this is very frustrating and dangerous as I use earphones and the volume getting louder could hurt the users´s ears.

Windows 10 Setup has replaced all your device drivers, including audio drivers with generic Microsoft drivers from Windows Update. Make sure you have latest official audio drivers installed and you should be OK. If you cannot find Windows 10 drivers, use Windows 8/8.1 or Windows 7 drivers. As a last resort use Windows Vista drivers. Then use the show/hide tool to detect any audio driver updates and block them (see earlier posts in this thread and the respective tutorial).

I have used the Dell webpage for the correct drivers:

Soporte de productos | Dell México

    even so the problem persist....

Use Aida64 utility to find out which is the model of your audio card. Then try downloading latest driver directly from manufacturer, do not rely only on Dell's site.

Use Aida64 to see the exact model, or open Device Manager, right-click on your audio card, select Properties, go to Details tab, select Hardware IDs from the list and then see the VID (VEN) and PID (DEV). For example for my Creative Audigy these are VEN=1102 and DEV=0004, so I should Google for "1102 0004 drivers". You Google your own and you should find drivers. Use the newest official you can find with that order: Windows 10, 8, 7 and Vista. If anyone doesn't work, try the next earlier one. Windows XP driver is the last resort for Windows 10 32-bit only.

I had this exact issue, and managed to resolve it by installing the latest realtek drivers (specifically, revision 282 0009-64bit_Win7_Win8_Win81_Win10_R282.exe)

    Hope this helps someone.

  12. I spent a few good hours trying to fix my issue and finally found a solution as well. I have an ASUS ROG G750JX running windows 10 64 bit and I tried almost everything in this entire thread. Soundlock, uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, updating drivers. Nothing seemed to work. While soundlock did what it was supposed to, speaker sound vs headphones were vastly different so I couldn't have a default sound level for both.

The most promising fix I had was uninstalling the realtek drivers and then just manually updating to the default windows drivers but each time I went to watch any video the drivers would automatically update to the realtek drivers again. So what I did to get it to work was to go to Device Manager -> Sounds -> Realtek driver, and just hit the Roll Back Driver option and voila. The driver stopped updating and I no longer have any issues with spiking of audio sound.

So hopefully if people are still having troubles with spiking audio even with latest realtek drivers this solution works or you.

Audio louder than usual until volume is changed

    Hello guys,
Just created this account to try to help you.

I've solved the audio problem (Volume abruptly increase after you hit the volume key of keyboard just one time / pauses a video for more than 10 secs / move the youtube volume button just a little with the mouse) in my ASUS X550LN installing the following version: 6.0.1.8219

Try searching for Audio_Realtek_Win10_64_VER6018219 in google and I hope you solve your problems with audio.

  14. Thank you very much !
I had this problem with my ASUS ROG G551JW Win 10 64 bit since 2015, I tried every version since then without luck until now.
I no longer have the problem with the 6.0.1.8219 version.
