    hi, i've been having serious audio issues with my computer, an asus x555ya, for almost three weeks now. the sound icon on my taskbar has a red x on it. i've tried every single solution on the internet to no avail; attempted to update/reinstall my audio driver only to find out that i don't(????) have an audio driver anymore (i had conexant previously, and now it's totally gone from my device manager); i've done a fresh start of windows to see if that would fix my problem... but it didn't. i've talked to windows support and asus support and neither of those help centers could fix the issue. i was told it was probably a hardware issue, but several computer technicians in my area told me that it was most likely a software problem.

    the windows support guy directed me to conexant's audio driver on the asus website, but when i went to install it, i got an error that said: "driver installation failed, could not find the device for this driver." the only sound device that's showing in my device manager is amd high definition sound device and nothing else-- not to mention that when i go to the sound manager > recording, it says that "no audio devices are installed."

    i've been way too long without sound and it's starting to tick me off. is there anyway i can fix my problem?? any help is appreciated!!

  2. Laptop speakers and plugged in headphone audio plays at the same time

    Just downloaded the most recent Windows 10 update. But now, even when my headphones are plugged in, I get audio from both the headphone and the internal speakers. Instead of a separate "speaker" and "headphone" sections in the sounds menu, it's listed
    as "Speaker/Headphone." Surely, this is not a feature people wanted. There is no problem when using Bluetooth headphones, just the audio jack.

    Speakers playing when headphones are plugged in


    I have an HP laptop with windows 10. When my headphones are plugged in, the speakers are still playing. When I go to sounds, the only device listed is the speakers. How can I silence the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.

    Audio playing through speakers while headphones are plugged in

    Hello,

    We regret for the inconvenience and at the same time we appreciate the effort you have put in to resolve the issue.

    As an initial recommendation, I suggest you to check what are the playback devices configured in Windows. Follow the below steps.

    1) Open sound from Control Panel.

    2) See if the devices are set correct in the playback window. Also, right click anywhere and choose show disabled Devices to find out if any of the devices are not configured properly.

    3) Amongst the listed items disable and re-enable your headphone device and repeat the same steps for speakers.

    Next, I suggest you to refer to the below Microsoft Help link and check if it helps to resolve the issue at the first place.

    Fix sound problems

    Though unclear if you have already deployed the mentioned troubleshooters, I suggest you to follow these steps to run the Windows in built troubleshooter. This is a diagnostic which helps to identify any potential issues present
    in your PC.

    a) Write Troubleshooting in the search box and hit enter.

    b) Click on Troubleshooting
    tab.

    c) Click on view all option on the upper left corner.

    d) Select the Playing Audio option from the list.

    e) Click Next to run the Troubleshooter

    Note: Also use the Hardware and Device troubleshooter from the view all list,

    If it still does not help, access the laptop manufacturer’s website and download the latest sound drivers, install it and check if it works fine and if it switches to speaker
    automatically from headphones when it’s plugged in.
