  1. Audio volume changes after sound is paused

After updating the Realtek audio driver from Dell, the sound volume started increasing every time any sound started after pausing or stopping for about two seconds or more. Any adjustment of the sound volume would restore the setting - until next time.

I believe this was caused by having duplicate copies of the driver. I had let the Dell website update the driver. Apparently it installed a second copy of the same driver, and the two of them were interacting.

I noticed the problem while running a music streaming app. After pausing it, when the music resumed the volume was higher. Just a touch of the volume up or down key on my keyboard would restore the system setting.

I discovered this by trying to Update Driver in Device Manager, I selected Browse my computer and Let me pick from a list. The latest driver version was listed twice. When I switched to the first copy of the driver, the problem was less but still there. Switching to an earlier version in the list fixed it.

I might try deleting the device to get rid of the drivers, and then let Dell reinstall the latest driver. Or I could just live with the earlier one, which is probably fine.

    :)

  2. No sound while playing audio and video files.

    Hi,

I appreciate if you could answer to a few questions to narrow down to the issue.

    • Which is the application that you are using to play the files?
    • Did you try the same on a different player?
    • Did you perform any troubleshooting steps?
As an initial troubleshooting step, I suggest you to check if the volume is set low or in mute state in Volume Mixer.

    • Right click on sound icon.
    • Open Volume Mixer check for the application that you are playing the files with and increase the volume and check.
If the issue still persists, I would suggest you to run “Playing audio” troubleshooter to diagnose and fix the issue.

    Hi Ajinc,

It could be some outdated sound drivers or some audio enhancements that caused the issue you are experiencing with controlling your system volume. To narrow down such concern, we'd like to ask a few questions:
