Windows Update is blocked because Defender is dead

    Addendum to my initial post:

I found at the Microsoft Update Catalog, a download which is performing a full scan of my system right now -

    Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool for Windows 8, 8.1, 10 and Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2, 2016 x64 Edition - August 2017 (KB890830)

I don't see updates for Windows itself. My last successful ones were 9 Aug 2017

    2017-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4034674)

2017-08 Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4034662)

Prior to that, the large cumulative update for Windows on 3 Aug 2017 -

    2017-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems (KB4032188)

and a number for Microsoft Office the same day.

  3. Fast scrolling speed after latest Windows update

After the latest windows 1703 update on the 13th August 2017, my microsoft mouse is now scrolling too fast in chrome (but not firefox) and also in microsoft office. I have gone into mouse settings but I am on the slowest speed. Any ideas?

No, I am not using Office 365, just the full version of Office 2013. I could get the updates individually but I think I'll wait a bit to see if they appear in Windows update.

If I'm not mistaking, those should be in Windows Update. I'll check my backup system and see if they're there since that machine is also running Windows 10, but also Office 2010

You'll have to ensure "Give me updates for other Microsoft Products when I update Windows" is enabled under Advanced options.

I have not received any of these updates. I am using Office 2016 Professional Plus. The standalone version, or whatever is called. I am not subscribed in Office 365. I've checked (for Updates) both in Windows 10 Pro and in Office 2016. It says, I am up to date.

Anyway, it is a bit weird with Office (builds, versions and updates) these days... When it will be their time, they will come [I guess].

If you got this Office from your institution, then you admin set the rules about updating. Office professional Plus is common version in large companies and institutions.

If you're referring to me, I automatically check that box when I install Windows.

Anyway as I said, for Office 365, the updates come through it, not Windows Updates. For standalone versions, the updates should come through Windows Updates... assuming the "Give me updates for other Microsoft Products when I update Windows" box is checked as you stated.

At any rate I just checked my backup machine and don't have any Office updates for it, but I'm running Office 2010 on that machine. Did get updates through Windows Update when I installed 2010 but that was a while back. Haven't gotten this new update.

I'm thinking most of us are talking about our personal PC's where your category wouldn't apply. That said, I've got Office 365 University Edition, which is a 4 year subscription available to college students and I get all my updates. No system admin involved.

I was just answering Joanne *Smile Could be... I'm not sure and there could be other explanations

Office 365 is always on personal basis, as Professional Plus could be enterprise

Today, August 11, I have finally received updates in Office 2016, approx. 650 MB of data.

Now I am up to date (I think)

After seeing this thread, I began looking for the updates for Office 2013 and did not find them in Windows update.

It turns out that they were installed on August 1, 2017. I didn't see them in the update history since the Cumulative Update KB4034674 seems to have reset it.
They do show in the installed updates, however.
