Windows 10: Authentication Code

Windows 11When I turn on my computer I sign on with a password. This morning my computer would not accept the password and I could not locate my PIN number. I asked to have a security code emailed to me so I could change my password but Windows would only send it to a Verizon email address that I recently closed. I opened my 365 account from my iPhone and followed the process to change my email address from Verizon to Gmail. That worked well and was confirmed. Also, there was no place to delete the old Verizon address but the Verizon address did not appear either. Seemed like we were good. Ho

Authenticator code

How can I find my Authenticator code or turn it off? I think I turned on two-step verification in 2016 but have never used. I purchased a new laptop and as part of the set up, this code is required. Help.

Go to
https://account.microsoft.com/

At the top choose Security and Privacy

Under Account Security choose More Security Settings

Scroll down for the following

Your account is protected by two-step verification.

• Turn off two-step verification
  

You've set up an authenticator app.
Learn more about identity verification apps.

Before you can set up an identity verification app, you need to add another phone number or alternate email address, or verify an existing one.

• Set up identity verification app
  
• Turn off existing apps

Choose Set Up identity verification app which will give you the barcode/secret code you need to get your authenticator app going.

Be sure to verify the pairing was successful by entering the code generated on the newly setup app.
