Windows 10: Auto switch tablet/desktop mode stopped working...

Does anyone know how to turn on the automatic desktop/tablet mode switching?

I run W10, the official release, on a Surface Pro 3 with a keyboard cover. Up to now, when I detach the keyboard I get asked if I want to switch to tablet mode, and when I attach the keyboard desktop mode has been automatically restored. I really like how W10 separates the two modes, instead off like W8/8.1 trying to be in both modes simultaneously.

But suddenly this does not happen. When the keyboard is detached, I do not get any question about enabling tablet mode and the Surface stays in desktop mode. If I manually switch to tablet mode, when I attach the keyboard the machine stays in tablet mode until manually disable it.

I have not changed any settings related to this, not deliberately at least.

I have looked at the tutorial on tablet mode in this forum, but it says nothing about automatic switching. I have checked the available settings but cannot see that there is any setting determining automatic mode switch, other than the "Always/never ask me before switching" (which is set to always).

The problem my Lenovo Twist is having is Auto switching into tablet mode. No other issues with once it is manually placed in Tablet mode and/or Desktop mode. Auto Switching is the issue here.

yes, had auto Tablet - Desktop mode turned on and even though docked using wireless keyboard and extended display, it was not switching to desktop mode. learned something, thank you.

It is still (even after the recent update) flaky here on my Surface Pro 3, now it works, now it don't...

 

have you finally solved the issue? looking through the whole internet and cannot find a solution. oh, microsoft...

 

If you go to Settings > System > Tablet mode, there is a "When this device automatically switches tablet mode on or off" What do you have that set to?

i've restored computer with system restore back couple of days and it worked again.

 

I figured you must have seen/looked at that setting, but figured I mention it anyway. Just in case the default setting got changed some how without you noticing. I run multiple displays so tablet mode is disabled for me. *Sad Couldn't use it even if I wanted to. Not without killing all but one of my displays.

 

Same issue with my Acer switch 10 as well, it has never worked. *Sad

 

Scratch that, I just noticed that Acer has released a program on their website called "Mode Change Indicator", after installing that it works!

 

I have the same problem with my Acer Switch 10, but I couldn't find the program. Do you have a link?

My SP3 is still flaky when it comes to switching between tablet and desktop mode. There is definitely something going on within W10 related to this switching and somehow conflicting with the keyboard being attached or not. So... for me this issue is not solved.

It seems we are slowly seeing more and more complaints about this. Maybe MS will finally listen and do the right thing.

 

What do you mean by "the right thing"?
