  1. Autologin freezing for random domain computers

    Hello everyone,

I have an issue with a specialized system that requires the computers to log in automatically.

It is a system of about 80 Win10 workstations (HP Z4 and Z240) in a domain with a 2016 server as domain controller.

The workstations are supposed to log in automatically. This is done by setting the registry keys in "HKLM\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows NT\ CurrentVersion\ Winlogon" by a group policy.

All workstations are started when the system is used and shut down afterwards. Autologin works, but about every second startup the login process will hang on one or two workstations and never finish or fail. Only rebooting these workstations will help, either by manually cutting power or by using remote shutdown. The login circle animation keeps going, but they dont react to keyboard input.

As its a specialized system, it has a few special characteristics that may or may not be important to know:

The system is standalone and is not connected to any other networks or the internet as per ICT security requirements. The system will also not receive updates automatically or even on a regular basis, as it was determined critical. The workstations are currently installed with Windows 10 1803. Updates can be applied manually when required.

All workstations use two intel network adapters combined with Intel NIC teaming for redundancy.

The server is running in a VM in an VMWare environment.

So far I wasnt able to determine the cause of the issue. Login does not seem to ever hang when login is perfomed manually.

I need to remove the issue from the system, but am out of ideas. I was hoping that anybody in here might have a solution.

I cannot update the whole system to a different version by chance. If a certain update is known to fix the issue though, I can apply it with no problem.

    Thanks in advance.

    :)

    windows 10 autologin problem

I work for IT for a college and have been having a problem with autologin (through domain accounts) not consistently working. We had it on some of our windows 10 (1507) computers and last month it suddenly just stopped. Ever since then I have been having
problems getting it working. I have tried the registry method (defaultusername / defaultpassword, etc) and the sysinternals autologin program. After doing either of these I will restart and the computer will not autologin- after booting up I will get to the
login screen and the username of what I tried to autologin with will appear on the left beneath the last logged in account. If i click on it the username field will ask for a microsoft email to login with (have to click on sign-in options and change it to
    domain login).

I have read all kinds of articles online trying to fix this but nothing is working. I have updated machines to 1607 or 1803, deleted the autologoncount registry value, disabled wifi adapter when possible, have made account a local admin, took machines off
our domains then have readded - nothing will work.

The only way I have been able to get machines to autologin is to reimage them with one of our SCCM images (which is on 1607) and use the autologin tool within the first couple logins. Really looking for suggestions on how to get autologin back working without
    having to go this route.

    Random Crash/Freeze on Build 10130

    Hello everyone.

I have been running the Windows 10 preview for the last few months and other than a driver issue here or there, did not experience any real problems. However, with the last update to build 10130, I have been experiencing a random crash/freeze that manifests itself in one of two ways:

    1. If I step away from the computer and come back before the monitor is set to go to sleep, I will come back to a frozen cursor, unable to do anything.
    2. If I step away from the computer and come back after the monitor has gone to sleep, I will come back to a black screen, unable to do anything.
In both cases, I have to hold the power button in to shut down the computer for a restart.

Any direction or help would be greatly appreciated.

Autologin freezing for random domain computers

    Random freezes or shut downs

Completely random freezing/shutdowns on a system with no recent hardware changes, and hard drive, memory, and PSU fine, usually means a software issue (file corruption or malicious software). I suggest following DavidV's recommendations.
