  1. Automatic Repair loop after recent update

Hi, I am using Lenovo Y520 with OEM Windows 10.

3 days ago my system received an update. After i restarted, the system went into automatic repair and diagnostic loop. I tried all possible method: restore, delete updates, mirror image, previous version and startup repair. All failed halfway with multiple errors. I used command prompt to check the error and it came back with bootres.dll error.

I contacted microsoft assistance and the final measurement was to fresh install the OS. I followed the advice and got my OS reinstalled using EFI USB with media creator tool with my colleague's system. During the process, my private data were moved to windows.old folder.

The minty OS booted normally, but a bit slow maybe due to old drivers. I tried to update my Windows again and it worked normally. However, after the update, i could not install any apps and my wnidows store could not start. I kept on receiving error 1392.

So, i thought i needed to restart my system to let the OS work properly. But to my surprise, the automatic repair and diagnostic loop returned. But this time, it ran chkdsk automatically after that and started the loop again.

I am at the edge of going to reinstall the OS again. But i am afraid the old Windiws.old folder will get replaced. The data inside it is very important, i really need it back as i was short on one day to my weekly backup routine, before this happened.

I tried contacting microsoft assisstance and my case also moved to level 2 technical. But often my communication got cut off due to technical faults (18/20attempts). I hope this medium can help me sort out my problem now.

Yuor attention is much appreciated. Please do ask me if you need any further details.

    Cheers,

    Boo

    :)

  2. Automatic Repair Loop

    Hi Charlene,

Your concern regarding the device going into an Automatic Repair Loop can be caused by change on its settings/configuration or broken system files. To effectively assist you with your concern, can confirm if you've made any changes on your device prior to
    your concern?

As an initial step to get back into the normal Windows screen, we suggest that you perform a
Startup repair. The repair will attempt to fix any broken components/files which may prevent your device from booting properly. To do this, follow the steps below:

    • On theAutomatic Repair screen, select Advanced options.
    • Select Troubleshoot.
    • Select Advanced options.
    • Select Startup Repair.

We'll appreciate if you can send us an update.

    Automatic repair loop

Hi there, thanks for your question.

Here are the steps I generally recommend to fix automatic repair boot loops:

    Use Check Disk Utility

Fix Boot and Rebuild BCD via Command Prompt

    Restore Windows Registry

    Delete the Problematic File

    Disable Automatic Startup Repair

    Check Device Partition and OsdevicePartition

Perform Refresh or Reset Your PC

These steps are listed in detail with instructions in the below article:
