Windows 10: Autoplay won't open in Windows 10.

Even after I changed all the default settings to 'Ask me every time'. The ' Tap to choose what happens with' box has opened in the 'Action Center' screen. I just can't get Autoplay to work at all, anybody else have to deal with this problem?

Hi Diana,

It's possible that the AutoPlay feature on your Windows 10 device is disabled. To enable AutoPlay, refer to the steps below:

• Open Settings app.
  
• Select Devices.
  
• On the left pane, select AutoPlay.
  
• Switch on "Use AutoPlay for all media and devices" button.

You can also customize how the AutoPlay opens the drive under Choose AutoPlay defaults.

autoplay missing with latest windows 10 update

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. Unfortunately, I already had autoplay for all media checked and your suggestion didn't work.

My card shows in the taskbar but autoplay just doesn't open. When a thumb drive is inserted autoplay also doesn't open but it opens file explorer window. But I want autoplay!

My problem is I didn't change any of my defaults, Windows 10 just seems to have made some changes on its own after the last update and I'm completely lost. It was working just fine prior to the last update.

Another issue I've had is not being able to edit read only photos from my iPhone, Windows won't accept changes to read only. But it's not that important as I don't really use my iPhone for business photos. But I do use a digital camera and photography is
essential to my business so I'm pretty desperate for help. Any additional ideas will be sorely welcome.

But I think your not understanding my problem. I'm not receiving ANY Notification from Autoplay, it doesn't even seem to start or run. The only notification I get is in the Action Center box well after the attempt of using autoplay. Let me put it this way to you, I put in a DVD (I have a program) and nothing happens, I put in a usb nothing, iPod the same thing. I know how to set up autoplay but I didn't know about using the shift key so I learned something new today and will have to try it. Picture # 1 is the notification I should see, picture #2 is what I find in Action Center well after the attempt of trying to use a device. Thank you for your help,

 

I understood what you meant. *Smile

I'm not sure why AutoPlay doesn't open when you click on the notice from inside the Action Center, but does if you click on the notification itself while showing.

What I posted was a workaround for you to directly set what you want to happen in AutoPlay. This way, the next time you connect the device, AutoPlay will perform what you set.

For the time being, I've downgraded back to Windows 8.1 Pro

 

Having the same problem. Anyone figure out how to fix it? Or make the auto-play popup like it was in win8?

Copy the text underneath and save as a .reg file and run it you will find that autoplay will now work.

I have the same problem. I tried the .reg file suggestion, but that did not solve the problem. I have not received any updates from Microsoft. All autoplay boxes have been set to 'Ask me every time'. I put in a CD and all I get is a notice appearing in the Action Panel that says 'Tap to choose what happens to this disk'. I tap the box and it closes. Nothing happens. Anyone have an update on this problem and how to correct it?

Same for me I have had to set mine to open so every time I plug in a drive it just opens to the root, it don't seem to work the same in 10.
