Azure Storage disables local network drives

I have been experimenting with setting up our network storage on Azure. So I created a storage account, file and mapped a local drive to that folder. However that disabled all my local domain network drives and i cannot figure out what the connect PS script changed here that makes the domain drives inaccessible.

First they came up with the Red X and would not connect or map. But later the had a blue question mark which i have never seen before.

I am able to ping the server via name and IP address, connect by RDP and access web pages. I can also access DNS off the server and internet access is unaffected. Only drives and network locations are affected.

Now it would appear that network discovery is off because i cannot see any computers on the network, but i checked and its on. I ran the troubleshooter and got could not identify the problem.

So not sure how the azure connection changed my system to not allow local connections.

    :)

Map Network drive whilst signed via Azure Directory issue

Folks I'm long standing Windows user and up to Windows 7 all has been absoluley fine. I'm now on a Windows 10 and I am pulling my hair out trying to connect to a drive or even to use workgroups. Its driving me crazy.

So simple example on windows 7 this works for map networked drive \\192.168.1.4\share

Asks for userid and password , I supply save credentials and from there on fab.

    On Windows 10
    • I have tried setting up credentials for 192.168.1.4 and get a message that the file or folder is invalid
    • I have used the option to connect using other credentials
    • I created a "local" account and this delighfully obliterated my Azure acount settings so I could not switch between logons. But the local account did work and the Map Drive was fine worked a treat.
    • So complete wipe and replace to get back to Azure as per my companies needs.
    • Map Network fails again
    • Checked all required services - seems fine
    • Even tried net use y: \\192.168.1.4\share /user:xxx password and this just gets the message A specified logon session does not exist. It may already have been terminated.

So how does one Map a local network drive in a Azure authenticated system.

Convert online Microsoft Azure account to local account?

Unfortunately, you cannot switch an Azure AD account to a local or Microsoft account. You need to create a new user account first, make it an admin account, then disconnect from your organizational account, restart and sign in to new local account.

All software remains installed and intact but all user specific customizations and settings are lost, new local user starting from scratch with default settings.

The whole process step by step:

1.) Copy your personal data (documents, images etc.) from current Azure AD user profile folder to respective folders in C:\Users\Public

2.) In Settings > Accounts > Other people, add a new local user (see Option One in this tutorial)

3.) Check that everything is correct, that you will see your Azure AD account under Work or school users (yellow highlight), and your new local admin account under Other people (blue highlight):

4.) Select Access work or school on left pane, select the connected Azure AD domain, click Disconnect:

    5.) Click Yes:

    6.) Click Disconnect:

7.) Enter the username and password for your new local admin account, click OK:

    8.) Click Restart now:

9.) When back on desktop with your new local admin account, move personal data from Public folder and its subfolders you backed up in step 1 above to respective subfolders on new user profile folder. If the old Azure AD user profile folder is still present in Users folder, it can be deleted now.

    That's it.

    Azure Virtual Machine VPN

Can you ping the server from windows 10 by name?

If so then try mapping a drive in file explorer to a share on the server.

But the best would be to create a storage account in azure and create a file storage then map to that on your server and windows 10. Much easier and you don't need VPN for that.

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/...

As for windows 10 not seeing the server in Azure.

Turn off your firewall in win10 and see if it that helps.

Also did you join the windows 10 machine to the azure AD?
