Windows 10: back to seven

Discus and support back to seven in Windows 10 Installation and Upgrade to solve the problem; Most people I know speak several languages - up to 5. So I don't really see a problem. Discussion in 'Windows 10 Installation and Upgrade' started by Wood, Mar 8, 2016.

Mine certainly did (Dell Vostro 3750 originally with W7 Pro).

A 100% clean install however worked beautifully and W10 really flies along. Without formatting the drive first though, and it was a total disaster. Upgrade installs failed as did clean installing over the existing install. Format the drive and it worked first time.

I have no explanation for why this happened.

  3. That's nice! But it doesn't apply to everyone! Otherwise we would never have any mistakes being seen during translations! Unfortunately the bulk of the world's population typically will be found to speak either one language native only or have learned a second like English being rated the easiest to learn. Not everyone becomes a linguistics experts however and will need the download in what they can read and write in. Me speakedy the Engla com pron da'?

The Fact is however is that MS is no longer going to providing the recovery downloads for the previous versions with their present focus on seeing everybody upgraded to 10! The lastest IE update isn't for any security issues but a new avenue to promote 10 IE users on 7, 8, and 8.1 will now be running into! 5. Not when I entered the Ultimate pre SP1 key you wouldn't! That's why I said I would have to enter the 7 Pro with SP1 key from the media bought back in 2013 for the remote pc I put together from spare parts at first but updated since.

That isn't the same site I was referring to earlier as well as on another thread. The site there uses a torrent file while the site I was referring asked for a product key before you can download anything. The page I was referring is found at: Windows 7

The RT Torrent is available free at the MS Store if you don't already have a torrent program that will be needed for this.

So the post you made immediately after my post where I provided two links to Win 7 downloads has nothing to do with either of them, right? I was getting very confused as it sounded like you could not find English Ultimate.

  7. The Ultimate torrents there are strictly SP1 unlike what you see for the Home Premium and Pro editions that see both 32bit and 64bit downloads without or with SP1 as the options. Remember a pre-SP1 key won't work on the download that saw SP1 included just like the newer SP1 keys won't work on a pre SP1.

That's one I can is now a favorable change seen with 10 since there won't be any more service packs! Instead a newer build will simply arrive by way of the WU. That will then go on just like it was another SP but be the newer build instead later followed by more patches.

That other site required that you enter a valid product key for the limited number of download options and were all found to be in those other 26 languages. It wasn't what was needed here for sure! *Eek and something you wouldn't want to trust so easily if you follow that meaning?! Meanwhile I was just about to set up a new 7 VM to see about the "dvd" and "dvd u" seen in the different links still not being 7 N downloads. It seems both the regular and N editions either see or don't see the letter "U" added in.

Update on the VM: So far the download without the letter U in the file name looks like any other normal 7 install. The folders seen in the ISO itself once downloaded and opened to view look as they would on a usb stick.

I won't be able to activate the VM however since the Pro key is in use on the other desktop! Next will be the "dvd u" download to see if there is anything to be concerned about. The U is in there for some reason.

download the professional non-SP1 ISO. Delete the ei.cfg file. That will unlock all the versions of Windows 7 in the ISO.

It worked for me on my pre SP1 key. Where did that info come from?

  10. It's actually the SP1 that won't work on the non SP1 install. That was in discussions over at SF back in 2010 when SP1 shortly after SP1 was first out and people had been asking about the DR disk images for laptops back then. The SP1 key was intended for late release media installs of 7 after SP1 was added to OEM media as well as subsequent retail full and upgrade disks after the first year 7 was out.

That's a notation in the How to Activate Windows 7 Online guide over at SF as I thought. For 7 you have to do more reading of the 7 guides.

When first going for the initial 10 upgrade unlike what was seen with older versions you had to unplug all other drives while with 7 only the second OS needed to be unplugged while testing the 8 CP! In fact the Reset on the 8 CP saw 7 added in automatically after the initial add 8 into the 7 BCD ended up trashing both! With 10 however the installer gets confused and places the BT, WS, QT also seen temp folders on one drive and the boot files on another!

That seems a bit more realistic, so all the recommendations for non SP1 media in this thread are not needed actually.

  12. As I was saying earlier the need to match the keys correctly was what needed to be done since there was the problem of the SP1 not working for the non SP1. One way to test the non SP1 key on SP1 Ultimate would be the second VM while the one thing I am still looking at is the "dvd" and "dvd u" as for why the letter is seen in some but not with others. The OP will need match the correct link for the present key.

The non SP1 without the U in the file name went on like a breeze. Whether the other download with the U makes any difference is the only other item of interest besides the 7 and 7 N.

But that wasn't what you said,

    Which I know works.

Go ahead, It works fine. Microsoft even let me download a SP1 ISO for my pre SP1 key.

Only in the specific situation that they would have a SP1 key and non SP1 media that keeps getting recommended.

I have never run into this and I've installed a lot of Windows 7. I don't see why this would matter but MS has done stranger things. How can I tell if a computer has a pre SP1 key or not?

I don't think there is a difference between a pre-SP1 product key and a post-SP1 product key. I think Nighthawk was mistaken on that one.
