Windows 10: Back up failing to internal drive

    Back up failing to internal drive


    My back ups have stopped working on Windows 10. I get one of the 2 error messages

    1. Your file history drive is disconnected it show its there

    2. 0x80070020

    It wont let me stop using the drive, if I try it gives 0x80070020 again!


    Any ideas?

    To help you with your concern regarding the internal hard drive, let me suggest you to follow the steps below:

    • Open File Explorer
    • Right-click on the Drive D:
    • Select Properties
    • Click Security tab then select Advanced
    • Select Change after the Owner: line

    • What is the make and model of the hard drive?

    • Did you get any error messages while using the failed hard drive?

    • When you say failed hard drive, are you referring to external hard drive or internal hard drive?

    Well, I'm sorry to hear that it's a WD My Passport that failed on you, @tomhenry ! *Frown Back up failing to internal drive :(
    I'd recommend you to try using a different USB cable with it and see if that will help your system to detect it without it disconnecting.
    I'd also suggest you to go to Disk Management and see how the drive is listed there. It won't hurt to check up on the health and SMART status of the HDD by running the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from the WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics.
