  2. Windows 10, Occasional Error, No Hard Drive, after Hard Drive Replacement

    Hi,

System corruption can cause issues detecting your computer's hard drive. For us to properly investigate on your concern, we'd like to confirm the following information:

    • On which cases do you receive the startup error?
    • Aside from replacing the hard drive, have you made any significant changes to your device prior to this happening?
    • Have you tried plugging in the replaced hard drive to another computer to check if the same thing occurs?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

We will be waiting for your reply so we can move forward to resolving your query.

Replacing a hard drive on a new computer

My computer just died and i found a new replacement with a 1TB hard drive at a great price but I need more space and don't want to use an external drive. Is it possible to replace the hard drive with a new one with more space right out of the box without
having to buy a new copy of windows?

    hard drive

    Hi Thomas,

You have 2 options - Option 2 is the best option!

    1.

Clone your old hard drive onto the new drive

Your new hard drive must be at least as big as the one with Windows 10 on it

You will have to use 3rd party software to clone your Data onto the new hard drive

Honestly, this method does have some issues

    2.

Copy your files from your current drive onto a flash drive

Remove the old hard drive and connect the new hard drive

Clean install Windows 10 onto the new hard drive

Reinstall your applications onto the new hard drive

Copy your files back onto the new hard drive

You can reinstall Windows 10 at any time and it will not cost you anything !

Since you previously had Windows 10 installed and activated on that PC during the installation process skip the steps which ask for a product key and select the option 'I am Reinstalling Windows 10 on this PC', and activation will not be an issue, your PC will
have a digital entitlement stored on the Microsoft Activation Servers

Make sure you install the same Edition of Windows 10 (Home, Pro . . . etc.) you previously had installed to avoid Activation issues

    Click this link:

to download the Media Creation Tool (Click on Download Tool Now), with that you can download the latest Windows 10 ISO (Select Create Installation Media for Another PC), you can create a bootable USB flash drive (min 8GB) using that tool

Then, Boot your PC from the Installation Media you just created (change Boot Order in your BIOS) to begin installing Windows 10
