  1. Background applications auto-closing: how to stop it

On my work laptop (Lenovo yoga C940) I often leave a lot of things running in the background that I plan to come back to. Things like articles in chrome that I want to read later or a simple to-do list in notepad that I can check off as I go. Something seems to be killing these idle applications, and I can't find what it is or how to stop it. I really don't want this 'feature'. I assume it is for power saving, but I always have power plugged in and power saving is turned off. Does anybody know where I could find a setting to fix this?

  2. Background applications

    Hi Robert,

We understand that you don't want some apps to run on the background of your computer. What we suggest is to
control which apps are allowed to run in the background. To see which apps have permission, just follow the below steps:

    • Open the Start menu or Start screen and select “Settings.”
    • Click or tap the “Privacy” icon in the Settings.
    • Scroll down to the bottom of the list and select “Background apps.”
    • You’ll see a list of apps that have permission to run in the background with an “On/Off” toggle.
Just bear in mind that, apps normally run in the background to update their live tiles, download new data, and receive notifications. If you want an app to continue performing these functions, you should allow it to continue running in
    the background.

Feel free to update us with the results.

How to ACTUALLY stop apps from auto-starting in the background?

@UltimatePOPCORN, They don't appear to be background processes either. You cropped your screenshot a bit too much to tell for sure, but the only way I can reproduce a screenshot that looks like yours is to actually run the Apps...

...when (of course) they will need some memory. When closed, they don't appear in my Task Manager at all - either in the
Apps (..) or Background processes (...) lists. Do you have them set to run at start-up? Look in Task Manager's Start-up tab, if that turns out to be the case you can disable them there.

That's what the auto setting will do since you're over the 1333 mark it jumps to the next step which isn't listed or officially supported I assume by that ram.

At this point though I would suggest dropping the multi one step or .5 so that we can get something stable and possibly take the heat issue out of the picture for now.

How to ACTUALLY stop apps from auto-starting in the background?: Windows 10 starts apps automatically in the background, so when you start the apps, they will launch faster. But I don't need that. The background apps settings in the Settings app don't change anything. Is there another workaround for that? Look at the Photos app,...
